Little Lexx was flying through the Dark Zone for a few weeks now since the incidents on Earth. Stanley spent most time on the bridge where now a small version of the commanding post of the former Lexx was starting to grow. He was happy about not being lost in space waiting for sure death. Thus being happy he noticed after a short while that things had changed significantly. And he more and more became appalling aware what the reason for his dim state of feeling somehow empty: Kai was not with them any longer and never would be.
Both, Zev and Stan spent three days searching for any sign of Kai left. They even used 790 to support them and Little Lexx did the best it could. But after those days there was only one answer to their search: nothing of him had left. Nothing. Just a lot of debris from Earth and the asteroid. But nothing of Kai. And after all the Dark Zone here seemed to had become a bit more darker an fierce to them.
Zev started crying again and again and a deep sadness overwhelmed even Stanley from time to time. There was nothing that he could do to help Zev come over it and he himself had no idea how to get rid of this empty feeling. He tried to distract himself for a while with exploring Little Lexx. He took Zev with him whenever he had a chance to get trough to her.
They found a lot of things in Little Lexx similar to the Old Lexx. There where small versions of the Feeding Room, a type of Shower Room an toilet installations, a lot of galleries an even a moth breeding Chamber was there and obisously Old Lexx managed to bring over two mothbreeders on Little Lexx. And there was a small but growing room where in Old Lexx the Cryo-Chamber had been. Several installations were there but no crypods installed yet. But finding this room left both end up once again with the bitter taste of their loss. Stanley never imagined to be that affected by Kai's death but he soon realized that Kai had become more than first a Divine Assassin and then comrade. Kai had become a close friend, a part of Stanley's small kind of family, now gone with so many questions unanswered and so many things left undone.
While standing on the commanding post of Little Lexx staring through the fast growing screen out into space a lot of memories came up to him. Most very bad and terrifying but also a lot of good ones and he recognized that most of them were related with Kai since they all left the Cluster. While the last of the Brunnen-G was with them, Stan saw it as self-evident that the Assassin was with them. He just had to be, out of no particular reason. And on everything they had been trough so far, Kai had been there. Whether directly supporting or silently waiting. But always there. He had helped them every time he could, never complaining about, never wanting something for it.
“Yeah... the dead do not want...” Stanley sad with a sombre tone and the feeling of sadness came over him again.
He remembered the incidents on K-Town when Kai's Body was overwhelmed with dysfunctions and they tried to help him somehow. It was the first time they could do something for him, except Zev's attempt to get more protoblood. But what he saw there was shocking and disgusting. He knew the bio-viziers of His Divine Order where cold-blooded and perverted versions of human life but the immense perverted and cruel things they did to Kai an probably all the other Divine Assassins almost made him throw up when Stan saw his friend lying there completely exposed and helpless. He was glad having Zev at his side in this moment for he had not known if he could have come over his sickness and helped Kai to find out what was wrong. It even was terrifying seeing this man helpless for the first time. Stan never had expected such a situation and somehow felt like a silly little boy, sick and completely unusable. If Zev did not have overcome her first shock then they all would have probably ended up dead by lapidation. Well, Kai not, but that would not have helped him anyway.
“Nothing out there, Stan?” the trembling voice of Zev let Stanley return to consciousness. He looked over his shoulder and saw her eyes were wet of tears again. Her hair was disarranged like just woke up from a bad dream, having tossed and turned all time. Obviously it must have been just that way. When their eyes met, Stanley realized that her eyes became somewhat like empty within any day they went on alone. She even was not interested in fining a planet with willing, good-looking men on it. She just wanted to find any kind of planet to stay.
“Nothing. Yet.” Stand had to admit. It was hard to find another suitable Planet after Lyekka's Alien Asteroid had eaten up so many planets in the Dark Zone. They had passed a lot of solar systems during the last five weeks but all planets that probably would have been worth living on just were lifeless without a hope to bear life again.
Zev bowed her head, looked around the bridge for a few moments and then ended up staring to the ground.
“Little Lexx has grown since...” she stopped talking and started to sob again.
Stanley saw tear-drops falling down to the fleshy floor of the bridge. He took a step of the commanding post and took her into his arms. She did not resist. She even started crying a lot more.
“... it is not fair!” she shouted out, deep grief in her otherwise sensual voice “... everyone had another chance ...” she sobbed “...so many had been reborn... Little Lexx was born … the Nova could escape … we have been saved… and he ...” Stanley felt her hands clutching into his body with an uncomfortable pain but he decided to do nothing against. It was the first time she formed her feelings into words, even if they were sad ones, she finally was talking to him about them. He knew what she was crying about. It was obvious. She had loved him an she still did. She had tried to come over him for several times with other men. But deep within her, her heart had decided to keep on loving the last of the Brunnen-G.
He realized this fact throughout many situations but most when they spent some time with the actors of the Brunnen-G theatre. With no hesitation she wanted to be a part of it and he could imagine that she would have stayed with Kai there for all eternity, singing and playing everything again and again. And Stanley had become aware the inscrutable sadness of Kai' life for the first time. As a newborn with and urgent need of knowledge beyond the things that were, he was to Brunnis' Society an outlaw. And it came what it had to come: he left his home, left his love and became aware the rising danger of His Divine Shadow and the end of the existence of his people. But instead of filling their souls with the legacy of their ancestors and fight once again the Insect Civilisation, they doomed him starving a long death while waiting for their own in sweet relief.
“It is not fair..” came up to his mind then and yet again, same words that Zev used few moments ago. Stanley saw the tragic events that happened to many thousand years before, when Kai and finally some comrades and his true love raised into the darkened skies to confront their fate. And in sacrificing themselves for the rest or their civilisation like true Brunnen-G warriors, singing their ancient song, Kai's life ended up for the first time without having had a chance to live a life, to be loved and finally dying after having left something behind.
No. He had left something behind. A prophecy and a legend that had spread out to the whole universe after his first death. A legend of one last Brunnen-G that will destroy His Divine Order and His Divine Shadow as well. But it was nothing he could be proud of because in that state of unconsciousness he had to live over 2000 years while serving His Divine Shadow passing on his reign of terror, trying to bow whole mankind or if not just to erase them.
Getting back his memories, there was a glimpse sign of hope for Kai to be given a second chance. But with his terribly martyred body, mind and somehow even his soul – so Stan believed – Kai ended up with two people that were far away of being such heroes. Stanley had been to much afraid of dying to become a hero and Zev... Well, she could fight, she was pure at heart and she carried a deep and true love for Kai within her. But none of them both ever meant to be a warrior, none of them had the slightest thought of what would come ahead.
With all this more than unsuitable abilities they made it quite good throughout all of this mess, Stanley thought. But they would never have come that far without Kai being near them. And again it had to come what must have been lurking over them all time long: the story had to and in pain and the loss of a great man, a great warrior, a friend and a beloved one. Prince reunited Kai's body with his spirit, bringing the dead man back to complete life, knowing it will come to a very soon end, not given a chance to run out this circle of cruel fate. And once again Kai sacrificed himself for all that was left, for earth, for Stan, for Zev. For the rest that somehow must have become his family, for the try to give it all a better outcome. For all but never for him. And for earth and all life on it it was too late due to 790.
“It was a salvation for him.” Stanley broke the silence between them and felt Zev holding on her breathe. Her hands got off of him and she stepped away of Stan's embrace.
“What?” the question was almost swallowed within tears. Her eyes stared into Stanley's and he felt more than uncomfortable with this situation. The look of sadness from her eyes changed to anger.
“How could you say that?!” she growled with that sombre Cluster Lizzard sound in it.
“... eh … I ..” Stanley started to stumble “... see, Zev...”
“Don't start again with 'I am still here'...” she shouted at him and he jerked.
“.. no .. wait Zev … I ….” he saw her lifting her hand against him. She would hit him hard into his face, he knew. But she understood all wrong.
“... I … I … meant to say … it came clearly up to me that I, too, really miss him....”
Zev stopped immediately. She just stood there on Little Lexx bridge, her beautiful eyes still reddened from her crying. Though awakened from a very bad dream, her hair in complete disorder, she remained the always beloved beauty. As for Stan, no one had the right to hurt her that much. She had gotten more self-centred after Kai's death and it seemed that something in her was dying piece by piece since that day. First she had been happy having survived and seeing Little Lexx and thought of finding a new home but few hours later when her body came to rest, the cruel truth came up to her mind and was struggling her since then more and more.
“... him ...” her eyes ran wet again and Stan had the urgent need to take her in his arms again but stifled his first impulse.
“... what I want to make clear to you ...” he started again “... was, that I, too, spent a lot of time thinking about him and I must admit, he became a true friend of mine. And more than that.” Stan breathed in deeply, always keeping an eye on Zev who stood there as if she were an antique statue.
“And you are right, it wasn't fair in any way what happened. Neither on Earth, neither before on Brunnis 2.”
Zev stared unbelievingly at him. What had come over Stan? She never thought he could come over his own feelings for her and think about her dead beloved. She never expected Stan to think over the past happenings and the less the happenings on Brunnis 2. He had always been satisfied in being alive and with the possibility of getting some women. But what she heard now right out from his mouth was not the Stanley Tweedle she had supposed to know.
“Zev?” Stanley tried to get her back to life but she just stood there obviously waiting for something.
“Well, … erh … I just wanted you to know … that he somehow .. let's say … he changed my point of view to many things.”
Was that really Stanley Tweedle? Had the happenings really brought up another side of the otherwise lusty, selfish captain Stanley Tweedle?
“Zev … see... as long as we are alive we carry on the memories of him and trough this we can keep him, his name, his soul, alive. The legend of K...”
“ Don't!” she shouted out with a shrug pulsing through her body. “...don't say his name, Stan!...”
Stanley stopped wondering why not saying Kai's name. But he did as she wished and remained silent. The few moments passing by seemed unbearable long but then Zev breathed in deeply and wiped out the tears on her wonderful face. She tried to smile. It was no comparison to her joy-filled smiles but a small blink for good and just wonderful Zev. And then she came towards him and gave him a kiss onto his cheek.
“I tought I already knew you...” she whispered. And then she left him standing alone on the small bridge. Some moments flew by until Stan's mind started up working again.
“Oh my … why did things come out that way...” Stanley asked himself. Seeing Zev in her somehow unstable condition made the sadness felt before growing up again. He had to do something. Now.
“Little Lexx?” he started
“Yes captain Stanley?” it answered immediately.
“Fly as fast as you can through the Dark Zone and find us a suitable planet.”
“Yes captain... what is a suitable planet?” Stanley smiled. Just like he had expected. Really a little Lexx.
“Suitable means, we, humanoids, can life and survive on such a planet. It should be somehow populated.”
“How should I find such a planet, captain Stan?” Little Lexx asked. Stanley tried to think of a good answer. Every time he explained something to Old Lexx, he did absolute exactly what he asked for and most of it had ended up in a near disaster.
“Follow your instincts!” he finally answered.
“Follow my instincts?” Little Lexx asked.
“Yup! Just follow your instincts! You need to survive, too!” Stanley said.
“I will do my very best to full fill your command, captain.”
“I am sure you will...” he stepped of his commanding post with a smile on his face. He would go to the Feeding Room and have a snack. And after that he would possibly go down to Little Lexx' drive systems where they had abandoned 790. He was thinking of bothering the robot head for a while.
Zev got rid of her clothes and went under the shower. She needed to rinse off her latest bad dream. Another day after another night full of pain and regret. She was dreaming again and again of his death. He had been there all alone. No one there with him in the inside of that asteroid. His voice while singing his fight song trembling in awareness what would come up next. He possibly was afraid to die. He now would feel the pain and everything that comes along with death again. And she had not been there. He had to die all alone.
Did he crash into a wall of the asteroid? Did the generator just explode while he still was trying to reach the inner part? Had he suffered? There where still so many questions that would stay unanswered.
Salvation? Maybe. But not this way. He should have been given another life to live. Even if not with her, he should just have been given this chance. Would he now be reborn somehow somewhere? Would he remember anything? Or would his soul rest till the end of time and then start his tragic life again without having a chance to change anything? What salvation would that be? No. It really wasn't fair. With him another star had fallen without a sound. Another spark had burned out in the cold.
The warm water ran down her body and slowly, very slowly her sad feelings had to vanish the caressing warmth. Zev started to think about her dreams she had about him. Just recently after eating that berry. When he finally came to her, longing for her, wanted to be loved, to be kissed. To feel whole again.
She stroke over her body imagining another outcome of the story. His warm hands all over her longing body. What would he behave like, when realizing to feel again? Carefully exploring what was long lost for him. Getting used to sense the warmth and softness of her skin. Smelling her scent, feeling her warm and excited breath. Feeling his whole body getting aroused in slow pulsing shivers when lying besides her.
Thinking about that made her getting excited for the first time since the incident. She imagined the hot and caressing warmth of the water running from his body, his fastening breath, his wishing heart, his longing loins. He would have unknotted his bun hairstyle letting his raven hair fall over his athletic shoulders, dripping of water. Kisses of a long lost passion would caress her body. The body of a romantic warrior pressed to the one of a perfect woman. Two parts long separated finding their way to come close each other. Two hearts were as one heart and this one heart had two. As long as this heart would beat she would love only him.
Zev ended up crying under the shower. Something deep within was hurting her so much she could no longer stand it. But under the rain from above no one would see her crying. She was alone with her deep inner disunity. Only the stars where watching her trough little portholes in Little Lexx' Shower Room and tiny blue star started pulsing during her breakdown but was not seen through her crying in the rain.
Stanley had ended his long walk down a lot of galleries into the yet strong-grown tail of Little Lexx. It's skeleton parts were growing fast and getting harder by time. It now looked a bit more like Old Lexx. He asked himself if Little Lexx would become a copy of Old or something new and different. But was the old one that creative to produce something completely new? Well, Old Lexx was some way intelligent and aware of being something living, it managed to reproduce somehow, but creativity never was shown by him. Stanley didn't even know if Little Lexx was male or female. Maybe he should just ask it.
“Lexx, tell me … are you male or female?”
“I am Lexx, captain.”
This answer was not very satisfying but what had he expected.
“Lexx, once again, are you male or female?”
“I am Lexx, captain. I don't know to be male or female.”
“But you must be! Old Lexx was male! He was aware of that!” Was he? Males normally don't reproduce by bearing children. Maybe he was a she then?
“What do you want me to be, captain?” Little Lexx asked with it's strange somehow asexual voice.
Stanley stopped his walk
“Oh no no no no! Not this way! I cannot tell you to be male or female... it is just a matter of .. . you know … “preferences of your own” …?
“I have all preferences you want me to have, captain.” It answered.
“Oh Lexx, see, you must know there is a difference between male and female and you just have to decide.”
“I cannot decide for I don't know of male and female.”
Stanley thought about that point. He remembered that Little Lexx just was a growing up Spaceship just born into this universe. How should it know about such things. But he was not sure if he should really explain that to it now.
“We will talk about that some time later, Lexx.”
“Ok. Than you can tell me how to decide.”
Stan rolled his eyes but then smiled. And now to something completely different he thought by entering the maintenance room for some power transmission parts of Little Lexx' flying devices. The angry eyes of 790 stared at him.
“Look who's here! Arch-traitor and murderer Stanley Tweedle.”
“Now see who's here hanging around incapable of doing anything for we left you here all alone.”
“Go and jump of the bridge, Tweedle.”
“I can do that and it won't hurt me since there is no Abyss waiting for me, left-alone robot head”
“You know it is all you fault!”
Standley stopped teasing.
“And why should that be?” he asked 790.
“You could have been in that asteroid! You should have at least one time been a man an killed yourself for Kai! And the best would have been that Bellringer slut would have joined you! So nothing would have happened to my beloved, cold and dark man of desire. I would just have picked him up after I ordered the destruction of Earth an than we could have spent all eternity lost in space!”
Stanley really grew angry.
“Just for you to know, robot-head, when you destroyed Earth you have destroyed your wishes for Kai was given his spirit back and became alive shortly before we started our mission. By extinguishing Earth and the Lexx dying Kai would not have survived anyhow out there in space, you silly piece of Cluster Crap with brainparts of an imbecile!” Stan answered and was about to turn around for leaving.
“That is not true! Kai was dead and is dead now! I would never have killed him!”
Stand turned around and pressed his lips together to let out some more sharpened words.
“Now follow my words, if you can, Kai made a deal to Prince. He bet him up in a chess game and therefore was granted his spirit. Prince made his promise come true shortly before Kai started his deadly mission. It was the first time he said that he wanted something. And for the dead do no want anything, how else could he have started with wanting something?”
790 stayed silent.
“And...” Stan started again with growing satisfaction of finally paying back something to someone “... and of course you must have heard his goodbyes to us and his fight song filled with an unusual temper of sadness and I believe of fear in his voice. The dead do not have a temper. They do not fear. They don't have any emotions. Not for me, not for Zev and especially not for you!”
And Stan left full of anger and an again upcoming feeling of sadness. Yes, the dead did not ...but Kai did for a few moments of his just regained life. Stanley had to think about what it might have been, realizing to be back at life just to sacrifice again. Being all alone in death with no one around holding you. No one who waits until all is over, standing by your side trying to keep the pain away. It should not have ended like this. That was not a good way to die. A warrior alone in the darkness and deep cold of space, of the Dark Zone.
Stanley shivered. They had to find a planet and give Kai at least a symbolic funeral or something like that. Perhaps a memorial stone with his story on. Just something that does not end him up lost in space.
Yeah, that would be a good idea! He had to tell Zev. Not the thing with the memorial stone and the grave but finding a good home and give Kai a place to rest. He started running down the galleries back to their sleeping chambers. Zev must be there.
“...Tweedle?” 790 shouted “... Tweeeeeeedle! …..” but his call remained unanswered.
“Zev! Zev!” Stanley shouted when entering her sleeping room. He did not expect her sleeping again so he took no care for that possibility. Indeed she was not sleeping. In fact she even wasn't in her room.
She might have been gone to the bridge to look after him. And so he run down the gallery to the bridge but no Zev was there. Stand slapped his hand onto his forehead. Of course! She would have gone for eating!
So he ran down the gallery to the Feeding room. But no sign of Zev. Where had she gone? Mothbreeding-place made no sense to him, the cryochambers had left so much sadness on her that she would not be going there again. The showers! There she would be!
When Stanley found her he was not able to hold back his tears. The water was dripping on her in small drops and she lay on the ground rolled up with her towel. She looked like she just had fought herself through the hell of Fire there and back again. He knelt down besides her after stopping the shower completely and was unable to do something. He just got another towel and laid it over her still trembling body.
“Oh man … does this torture never end?” he asked himself. “What have we done to deserve this. What has she done?” he softly stroke over her body and she seemed to calm down a little bit. He sank down besides her on the wet floor. He saw no chance to bring her back to her room and he just did not want to leave her alone right now. And neither she should wake up after whatever fight she had just been through.
When he lay down beside her he pulled her softly toward her. This time without any sexual meaning he just wanted to be here with her and let her know that she wasn't alone. He would not leave his friends alone any more when they were in need. He could not have been with Kai but he could now be there for Zev. Just as a friend.
“Captain?” Little Lexx voice echoed through it's interior. But no one answered.
“Captain?” it called again.
“Stanley?” and he woke up immediately this time collecting his thoughts.
“... Well … yes, Lexx?” he looked down to Zev who seemed to sleep peacefully now. And he yawned.
“What is it?”
“I think I am following my instincts now.” Little Lexx told him.
“Oh good, Lexx, that's just...” he was about to stretch himself but stopped by thinking about Lexx just said. Than his face really got puzzled.
“What do you mean by 'following your instincts'?”
“You commanded me to follow my instincts.”
“Eh yes, I did … I suppose...” he slowly stood up from the ground.
“And now I am following one of my instincts … I think.”
“I do not know, Stanley. But there is a light I want to follow.”
“A light? What do you mean with that?”
“A blue pulsing light. I feel very attracted to it.”
“You … what? Attracted? I thought you don't know of your own preferences so why can you be attracted by it?”
“I do not know, Stanley. It just makes me feel good. It flies fast in front of me and I am chasing it for a while. Shall I stop?”
“Well, erh, yes! I need to see that light before we go after it!”
Stanley looked at Zev and decided to wake her up properly for she was just rolling around on the floor during that conversation but not waking up entirely. He just knelt down and shook her shoulder as she turned around in an unbelievingly fast way and her eyes stared into his.
“Z-Zev?” he stuttered.
Zev looked around and became aware where she was and in what 'condition' she would be. She looked down on her body partially showing her naked skin. And then there was Stan kneeling next to her, very close to her.
“Stan!” she jumped onto her feet and slapped him into his face. Stan had not expected that and was almost carried away with his hurting cheek.
“Now what was that for?” he moaned.
“You .. you just .. I ...” she turned around looking for her clothes.
“I … I don't know. It just seemed you want to go over me again!”
Stanley rolled his eyes and managed to get onto his feet as well. Zev had found her clothes now and hurried getting dressed up.
“Oh Zev!” Stanley rubbed his cheek. “I don't want you thinking of me just this way!” he really seemed upset and Zev nodded her head in apology.
“See, I found you hours ago lying here on the ground, shivering and complete fatigue. I covered your body with that second towel over here and decided not to wake you up for you possibly needed to rest after whatever fight you just had been trough.”
“I am sorry Stan.” Zev admitted and gave him a short kiss on the cheek where she just slapped him.
“A .. a … and I did not want to leave you alone.” he continued. “I don't want to leave my friends alone any more.”
Stanley really had changed. Weeks before he would still have get himself out of anything that nearly looked like being a threat or an unpleasant emotion. But now he seemed to care for the surroundings. Now that they were on their own. Without a silent guardian. Maybe he was right when he said, the ones death had changed his point of view. Stanley would not be able to protect her, she knew, but she was thankful for not being alone with her misery and finally found a hopefully reliable friend to share what makes her restless and just have one by her side that was lost in the Dark Zone just like her.
“So why did you wake me up again?” She broke the silence.
“Oh yes!” he got upset right now, grabbed Zev's hand and pulled her out of the shower down the gallery to the bridge.
“I told the Lexx to after her instincts, fining us a suitable planet.” he told Zev in excitement while running to the brigde.
“And Little Lexx seems to have find something that it calls a blue pulsing light and it is following that light since hours.”
“A blue pulsing light?” Zev asked.
“Yes. That's what Lexx said. I told her to stop immediately so I can have a look at it.”
They soon arrived the bridge and saw that light Little Lexx had spoken of. It was more that a light. It looked more than a blue pulsing sort of … star. But there was something else strange about the view. All other stars were gone.
Stanley jumped onto his commanding post and laid his hand to the now visible commando screen before his belly.
“Where are we?”
“I don't know, Stan.”
“Where have the stars gone?”
“I don't know either.” Little Lexx answered.
“Ask it to turn around Stan! Perhaps we can see what lies behind us!”
“Lexx! I want you to turn around!”
It turned around. And there was nothing but a deep black. No stars, no planets nothing.
Stanley made a fist and bit into it.
“What now, Stan?” Zev asked and stepped closer to the commanding post starring unbelievably at the blackened screen.
“How long have you been flying through that darkness Lexx?”
“I was flying there now for fifteen minutes. And I was three times before.”
“Before? What do you mean with that?”
“Hours ago when I met that attracting blue light and I started following him I came first to such a dark place. I followed the light for about twenty minutes trough that darkness and then there were stars around me again. And I still was following the blue shiny thing. Then there was darkness again after three hours and I was within darkness for about an hour. Then there were stars again and I followed. Now there is darkness again. And my blue attracting light.”
And it was. Just as Little Lexx explained its journey that little star came up on screen from the left side.
“Lexx! I did not tell you to turn around again!” Stan said.
“I did not turn around, Stan.” Lexx answered.
“Well how else should we see that star again for had left it behind us?”
“It just came from the left side, Stan.”
Zev looked surprised to Stan.
“A star cannot wander around and 'come up from left side'.” Stanley said.
“But it really does, Stan, look!” Zev pointed at the screen.
Both gazed to the screen watching the little pulsing star wandering right in front of them.
“Stanley, does this star remind you of something?” Zev asked after a while.
“Remind me of something? No Zev, I never saw a blue pulsing star...” he stopped by the memory coming up.
“Except the one we saw on Brunnis, right?” Zev answered.
Both first looked at each other than back to the screen. That star really looked similar to the one they had seen mating with the dying sun of Brunnis. It was a shiny glowing light in absolute darkness and it seemed to have the ability to move by it's own will.
“I want you to turn around once more!”
“As you command.” and it turned around.
Stan and Zev carefully watched the screen. Shortly after they had turned and were starring into deep darkness again, Blue Star came showing up from right side now.
“Stanley, may I follow this attracting light again?” Litte Lexx asked in a way of excitement.
“Shall we?” Stan looked to Zev and for the first time after Kai's death he saw something like hope in Zev's eyes. She turned her head over to him and smiled.
“Maybe it is … him?” she spoke out while her voice was that wobbly she almost could not speak the last word.
“You really think?” he lifted an eyebrow.
“Let's go and find out!” She said with growing excitement. It seemed that this meeting with the blue star brought back her will to live. And he loved seeing Zev alive and full of hope again. He just was afraid that they all could be decoyed into another trap. A bitter taste was left when he gave Little Lexx the order to follow.
“Lexx, follow that light!”
“As you command!” and Lexx set course towards the star.
Both watched the screen carefully looking out for any signs of danger but there was nothing but that moving star straight in front of them and the darkness around. Even after five more minutes.
“Zev... what if...” Stanley started.
“If what?” Zev answered quietly.
“Well, if it is not … him ...” he remembered not to say his name. “... it could be a trap...” he ended. She looked at him. But she was not angry. Somehow her hope for the best seemed to overcome everything else.
“If it is a trap, then we will find out.” she finally said. “And...”
“We have the Lexx! Not yet the most powerful destructive force in the two universes but might be that soon! And I think we can still blow up planets yet!”
Stanley breathed in deeply.
“Yes. We have been lost in space for too long now. Let's see what Blue Star has for us!” he laid his hand down to the command screen.
“Lexx! Follow as fast as you can!”
“As you command!” and they felt the Lexx speeding up thus the constant dark surrounding did not change.
“And Lexx: get your weapons ready!” Stanley added.
The speed seemed to increase for Little Lexx seemed to be very interested in catching the light.
“What weapons?” it asked
“What weapons?” Stanley yelled at Lexx and Zev's eyes went big. They never thought of Little Lexx might not be capable of blowing up anything.
“You're kidding me, aren't you?”
“I do not know how to 'kidding'” Lexx answered.
“Holy shit...” Stanley prayed looking to Zev in true fright. But before they managed to say something else darkness was suddenly shut down by thousands of stars and they found themselves in front of a big planet surrounded by three moons. That planet looked a bit like Earth. A lot of blue and green spots seemed to be on it's surface.
“Stop Lexx! Stop immediately!” Stan shouted and it stopped as fast as it could.
Both were staring at the screen. It was not the planet what was giving them the shivers but the moons. There were three of them. Three all in all grey moons aligned in some kind of triangle. And right in the middle of that triangle there was something like a blue swirling sort of energy, floating in slow circles between the moons. Yet and then they saw a bright but very small flash of light coming out of the dark centre of that entity just to circle for a few moments to the outsides and then vanishing out to space. And others just the other way round: flashes showed up somewhere in space, were drawn to that pulsing and swirling energy, circling for a while to vanish in the dark enter again.
The blue star they were following hovered upon on of the three moons. Zev and Stan now realized that there were buildings on the moons. Strange architecture but definitely buildings. The star remained over a kind of tower apparently built of brown or rusty steel. It was a mixture of a castle like building like the one they found Vlad in on earth and very familiar structures like they saw on Brunnis. Could that be Brunnen G buildings?
Zev got more and more excited. She just forgot that unanswered question of Lexx' weapons. She just wanted to land on that moon and enter the building.
“Nargh, I know what you are thinking about, Zev!” Stan broke the silence.
“Nothing attacked us, Stanley, and there must be a reason why we are here!”
Stanley could not get away the bad feeling he was about to get. He had never seen such a place before. Yes they had not been attacked yet. But it could still be a trap.
“Lexx. That weapon thing. Don't you have your weapons?”
“What am I supposed to do with weapons?”
“Blow up planets?” Stanley almost whispered.
“I can blow up planets?” Little Lexx got excited.
“Yes you probably can Lexx. It is what your fath... erm, Old Lexx was supposed to do.”
“I can blow up planets.”
“Yes but you won't blow up any planets yet, okay!”
Few seconds were passing by.
“Yes Stan. I will not blow up any planets yet.”
Both breathed in deeply. Stan had the feeling that what they about to do now would possibly end up like everything else they did before. But he must admit that the possibility of finding something good down there or that star being somehow related to Kai made him feel excited and a bit comfortable.
“I want you to land on that moon with the blue star hovering above.”
“As you command.” And Little Lexx soon reached that moon. The closer they got the better they saw the buildings on the moons. While approaching they saw another flash come out of the centre of that entity between, circling around a few moments and then was like shot out into the universe. The buildings looked all mostly the same. There was a big anonymous face meant for entrance just like the library on Brunnis and then each building hat three towers reaching high up into the sky. Big windows could be found everywhere to who ever lived inside must have had an all overlooking place of sight within the towers. It must feel like one stood right in space for the windows were so big. They could not see if the openings were covered with glass or not. But if someone was supposed to be living in there there must be a shelter from space, air to breathe.
Little Lexx landed very close to the building. It would not take a minute to come to the entrance door. They decided to put on their two remaining space suits and have a walk over since they no moths to fly over with yet. They had to get out through Lexxes mouth and a while after they stepped outside on the surface of the moon. Down here, close to that swirling entity, the feelings of something very considerable overcame them. They had no idea what it was, but they felt they would soon find out and it would be very impressing.
They were at the front gates now and just when they stopped the big door opened. Stanley stood close to Zev's side and together they stepped in. There was a big entrance hall with one big stairs up onto a kind of plateau. The floor was made of smooth and glossy black stone that reflected the stars that were seen trough the big openings onto both sides. They started at the bottom and ended up with the ceiling. About 30 metres high they estimated. But that was just the hight of the entrance hall. It seemed to be as high as wide. The plateau had a balustrade out of white stone, similar to the one on the floor. Under the balustrade seemed to be two entranced to other rooms, one on the left of the stairs one on the right. In the middle of the entrance hall was a big fountain. There was a twisted wave made of stone carrying a ball made of glass on its top which was circling around in water that flew all over the glass ball and finally purring down in a round pond. They could hear the sound of the water doping into the pound. It sounded comfortable and embraced them with some sort of silence and balm for their souls.
Upstairs on the plateau there were the small stairs to three other doors looking like gates from old churches as they had seen on Earth. The gates itself seemed to be made of very dark wood with silver fittings on them, surrounded by white stones that built the doorway. The outside of the building wasn't very appealing, but the inside looked as if it was just have been built. Everything was clean and reflecting, a mixture of alabaster stone and deep space feeling as for the dark floor. Even themselves were reflecting on the floor.
The door closed behind them and Stan ran for it but it already was shut when he reached it.
“I knew! I knew! I knew!” he shouted out loud while slamming at the door.
“Stan?” Zev tried to break this nasty habit.
When he turned around he just saw a person stepping out of the gates to the middle and highest tower. It wore white clothes possibly made of linen, a silver belt around its waist and the face was completely hidden under a hood which tail was that long that it reached almost the bottom. They could not say whether this person was a man or woman. It had crossed his arms and the hand were hidden in the wide floating sleeves. It almost looked like a monk or priest what did not heighten up their feelings.
The person stepped down the great middle stairs and walked without a sound towards the fountain. There it stopped.
“Look Zev! It's got no reflection on the floor!” Stan whispered to Zev and she realized it as well.
The person only a few meters away from them looked to the bottom of its feet then to the left and to the right.
“Yes, we do not have reflections for we have no spirits.” she answered. It was definitely a female voice that spoke from underneath that hood. Stan relaxed a bit more.
“Where are we and who are you?” Zev asked.
“You do not need to fear for we will not harm you.”
“So there are more of you around here?”
“We are more of us but not around here.” Zev and Stanley looked at each other with signs of confusion on their face.
“You don't need your spacesuits here.” The woman started conversation again.
Zev tried out first and took off her face-protecting parts. After taking a few breaths Stanley did the same and they got rid of their suits.
“I am Zev Bellinger from B3K and this is Stanley Tweedle, captain of the Lexx.”
“We are glad to see you. You must be the ones little Blue Star was looking for.”
Zev shortly met Stan's eye then returned to the woman.
“So who are you?” she asked again
“We are the guiding ones.” she answered.
“The Guiding Ones?”
“The Guiding Ones that help Alpha full fill its 'calling'.”
“Now who the hell is Alpha?” Stan interrupted.
The white woman looked out of the window to her right side and Zev and Stan followed. They could see a part of the lightening and pulsing blue entity between the tree moons.
“What is Alpha?” Zev added.
“Alpha is the beginning of everything. And also the end of everything. It ever was and it ever will be. It guides all spirits from one life to another. All out the universes.”
“Universes? The Light Zone has been destroyed. Just the Dark Zone was left.”
“We know. We saw. Alpha saw. But there are more universes and if one has ended it will start to exist again. It will take aeons of time but all that ends begins some day some time.”
“You aren't the Time Prophet, aren't you?” Stanley asked
“No. We aren't. We are the Guiding Ones. The Time Prophet has passed her time in the Zone of Light and is now living her life in the Dark Zone. We saw her stepping out of Alpha and leaving into space a log while ago.”
“Does Alpha guiding ll spirits of those that have died.”
“All humans, yes. Almost we must admit.”
“What do you mean by almost?”
The white person looked to alpha and then back over her shoulder.
“There are spirits that have never come here after their death. We do not know why. Alpha could not guide them into their next lives. They are lost somewhere between the universes in hidden zones, other planes, call it what ever you want.”
“Speaking of specific people? Or Insects?!” Stan asked.
“As I said, Alpha guides only humans. And yes, specific people. In fact a whole race.”
Zev started to feel shivers running down her spine. She felt her blood rushing into her head, her heartbeat fastened up. Somehow she knew the answer.
“You mean the Brunnen-G?” Zev's voice was trembling.
“We mean the Brunnen-G. None of their spirits found their way to Alpha so they could not be reborn. We could not reunite body, soul and spirit. None of them but one.”
Zev felt like her heart just stopped bearing. None of them but one. That could not be a coincidence. All that way following a pulsing star ending up on a place where en entity called Alpha gave rebirth. She must speak of him. Of...
“...Kai?” she almost died of saying his name again.
“So it is Kai, last of the Brunnen-G. And first of the Brunnen-G that returned.”
Zev was breathing out loudly and gabbed Stanley's arm. He still did not feel well but felt a great relief taken from him when he heard his name.
“Where is he! Can we see him?”
The white woman turned around and stepped onto the stairs way back where she had come from. Zev and Stan followed with rising excitement. Before the centred gate the woman stopped again.
“His body is here but yet unspirited. That is what you can see.”
“Unspirited?” Zev stared unbelievingly at the woman. “But he was given back his life! He must have been spirited!”
“He probably was. His spirit is around here searching its way. Alpha knows. And normally Alpha gives birth to the three of all: body, soul and spirit. But for that the body keeping the soul must vanish. This body did not vanish. It was just here months ago. It still holds the soul of Kai which is – literary spoken – the keyhole for his spirit. Every spirit has just one fitting soul in one specific body. Body and soul cannot be separated they are a unity. By death only the spirit is separated and waits until its body is reborn to inhabit it again. Most spirits do not remember their former lives some do. Like the Time Prophet's one.”
“Take us to Kai, please!” Zev begged trying to hold back her tears.
“We will.” The woman stepped on forward to the gate which opened after she just stood in front of it. The stairs up seemed to be endless and Zev just wanted to start running. It took them just a few minutes to get on almost the highest point of that tower which obviously had only one room. The other tow towers seemed to have more plateaus with rooms on it as far as they could see through the windows.
And then they stood in front of a big rich decorated door. Symbols none of them both knew were all around the door, another black wood-made door with big silver fittings on, embraced by alabaster stone. It slowly opened and the woman stepped in. Zev almost fell into the room for she did not watch the last step out of unbearable excitement. Stanley just could keep her from falling her knees and then both saw it: on some kind of altar in front of a big window showing a thousand of distant stars there was his body lying. All dressed up in the black clothes he had been wearing. His hair in complete order. His face without motion or emotion. The mark on his cheek. No sign of injury and Zev would have bet he was not as pale as she remembered. But it was his body. It was KAI.

A distant horizon
Zev could no longer stand it. She shook off Stanley who protected her from falling onto the stone floor half aware that he now tumbled and tried hard to keep balance. She even realized for a single moment that she must have touched the white woman but she only had mind and eyes for Kai.
She reached the altar in no time due to the quickness of her Cluster Lizard part. And then she bowed over his body. He looked like he was sleeping. No sadness on his face, no pain, but also no sign of life. Tears ran down her eyes and she could not suppress kissing him long and passionate.
Stanley and the white woman were up to the altar now and even Stanley felt a tear coming up his eye and he dried it with the back of his sleeve as fast as he could. He did not want anybody see him crying. It was a man lying there, what would the white woman think of him, seeing a guy cry for another one.
“He was close to you.” White Woman answered as if she could read what was up Stanley’s mind. Irritated he looked towards her but he could not see her face under that hood.
Meanwhile Zev stared at Kai's face and hoped to see a spark of life within but nothing happened. He just lay there and nothing more. Like in cryostatis. But he did not feel cold she noticed. He even had a 'warm' touch. And there was something else.
She realized this unknown warmth while touching his cheek, following the shape of his mark and her other hand was resting on his chest. A bit scared she looked the way down where his chest was and her hand started stroking over it. It was not there! She expected to touch the section of his protoblood supply and the tiny slots on his right side but she could not feel them underneath.
Zev looked up to Stanley and saw him fighting with tears.
“This is not Kai!” she suddenly said.
Stan daunted up and looked a bit confused first to Zev then to White Woman.
Zev once again tried to find the obvious parts of the cruelties the bio-viziers did to the real Kai. The parts weren't on his chest. She once again looked up to Stan who was about to step away from White Woman towards the altar and Zev. She sighed and finally decided to get to deeper parts of the body in front of her. She grabbed between his legs and felt … felt what had to be there but not was there for Kai. She made a step backward obviously shocked a bit. She swallowed loudly and realized Stan getting closer to her.
“What is it, Zev?” Stanley asked with a more and more frightened tone in his voice.
“I … I don't understand...” she finally ended up in inspecting Kai's right arm. And she found what she was looking for. His brace was there. But what happened to the other parts. Could this really be Kai?
“It is the body of the one called Kai.” White Woman broke the silence.
“That cannot be!” Zev answered but her voice did not sound convincing.
“What is the problem?” Stanley tried to get an answer.
Zev looked at him. She suddenly opened Kai's clothes or at least the part were the protoblood supply should have been and presented it to Stanley.
“There!” she said and her voice was trembling. “And here!” she revealed the right side and no input slots were there.
“And not to mention what is between his legs!” she continued.
“I know what is between his legs, Zev!” Stanley interrupted but was still staring unbelievingly on Kai's chest. No sign of the biomechanical parts. No protoblood supply. No slots.
“You don't!” Zev made him clear. Stan raised and eyebrow.
“Zev, what are you talking ...” he grabbed between Kai's legs and suddenly flinched backward as if he had got an electric shock. He stared unbelievingly first at his hand and then at Kai's lower parts.
“What the hell..?!” Stanley shouted out “He was not supposed to have that!” he declared.
Zev rolled her eyes.
“That's exactly what I wanted to tell you, Stan!” she said a bit angry. “This cannot be our Kai! The only thing that still is the same, is his brace!” she pointed towards Kai's right arm.
Stanley walked around the altar and examined the brace. Yes, this truly was Kai's weapon. But what happened to the other parts? This body looked a lot like Kai. Almost in every detail. But only Almost.
“May we explain?” White Woman said after a while watching the both examine the body. Zev and Stan looked up waiting for an answer.
“This is the body of the one you call Kai. Almost.”
“Yeah, right! I knew this was to good to be true!” Stan said with upcoming disgust.
“We repaired, what we could repair.” White Woman continued.
“Repair?” Zev started to listen attentively.
“Repair, yes. This body is still not in the condition it should be.”
“Kai's body was de-carbonized by the bio-viziers of His Divine Shadow. They filled it with a liquid called protoblood what kept the body somehow alive.” Zev said.
“That would explain a lot.” White Woman answered.
“Will explain what? Answer us!” Zev got angry for she felt she had to demand for any tiny piece of information.
“That de-carbonisation is what we could not repair. Yet.”
“Yet?” Stan tried to follow.
“It would be easier for you if you would follow us to the Making-Rooms so we could show you.”
“Listen, Lady! We ain't going nowhere until you come up with all the truth!” Stanley shouted
“Yes! Tell us the truth! How can this body be the body of Kai? What do you mean by 'you could not repair the de-carbonisation'?” Zev added.
“We will try our best to explain.” White Woman started again. “Where this body came from, we are not sure about. Normally Alpha gives birth to the vanished bodies to their predetermined destinations. But months ago, after strange happenings, this body showed up on this altar. Alpha told us he felt a presence he never felt before. That means that a spirit was around that had not found it's way here before.”
“Which means?” Zev asked.
“That means that the body of this spirit never died before, never vanished before and that this spirit did never come here awaiting his reunion. All human spirits come her. All but those of the Brunnen-G. By now. He is the first spirit of them that found his way here. But something keeps him away from reunion with his body.”
“I guess I know what keeps a spirit away from entering a tortured body of a Divine Assassin.” Stanley more said to himself than spoken it out loudly.
“We examined this body and recognized this strange condition he is in.”
“The de-carbonisation.” Zev said.
“So you call it. We examined this body very precisely for Alpha wanted to know what the appearance of this body means. We could not quite satisfy Alpha and tried to look for cells that might contain genetic informations about this body. And we finally found some.”
Zev and Stan looked at each other. They never knew that there was a possibility of finding living cells in Kai's body.
“'Living' is not the correct term for this cells but they were good enough for getting the genetic information Alpha was longing for. Under that metal coverage between his legs some parts of the sex organs were remaining and there we found a few cells. We gave them into our Genetikum to Alpha and he soon found out that this body belonged to Kai, last of the Brunnen-G.”
“Wait, wait...” Stan interfered. “What is a Genetikum?”
“It is some kind of living machine that is directly connected to Alpha. We do not know how it works exactly but it is the machine made us.”
“It made you?”
“It made us. In fact Alpha made us. He is a bringer of life and he started after a long time, being the only thing in universe, to create a planet. A small one. Non-populated. Then another and a third one. The three moons of this place here. And Alpha felt comfortable being surrounded by something. He had seen a lot of stars in this universe but none was close enough to examine it for Alpha is strictly bound to this place. He says it is a point where all universes do cross and he was there since the birth of the universes. He was there giving live to all of mankind, ever and ever again. But no one ever knew he was there and he started to be a life-giver to planets.”
“Sounds very weird to me, Zev!” Stan whispered to her.
“Alpha chose the three moons here to be the first ones he created out of the memories the humans left when they ended their lives, entered into him and were waiting for their reincarnations. Alpha can read in all the memories of all the lives that came to him. But for he never created a planet these moons just were some sort of experiments before he finally succeeded creating a life-bearing planet.”
White Woman rose on of her arms and pointed toward the big planet they had seen before, that was a bit similar to Earth.
“He named it Arcadia.” she continued. “But he still was alone out here and he started to built the Genetikum to produce us.”
“Produce you?” Zev asked.
“He did not want to be alone any longer and no humans had populated Arcadia. It seemed that the spirits did not know how to get there since it was no creation of the universal energy that gives life to everything but an invention of Alpha. But he still was not able to make real spirited bodies. It was something he was not supposed to do. Every time he tried to built a body and send a spirit to it that body ended up in terrible torture for the key – what you call soul – never matched to the spirits. They already had matching bodies and never would stay in another body. He soon send body, soul and spirit from his inner sanctuary to his machine instead to their destined places, and gave them birth.”
“Alpha knows where to send body, soul and spirit when it is their time. It is something he describes as a kind of universal plan, he needs to follow. He did never broke with than plan until those days he gave rebirth to spirits on the Genetikum. The consequences must have been horrifying. All of the humans born to this place went insane, killed themselves for something within their spirits knew was totally wrong. It seems that every spirit has some kind of destiny or own will. They seem to know where they belong to and for they do it was an unbearable state of living. They were incapable of living more than seven days. Most went insane, killed themselves, others ended up as their minds seemed to be lost in space. None of them noticed Alpha thus he tried to communicate. No spirit ever could hear him. When he realized it he was sad and never tried again to lead spirits away from their destined path. He thought he would be alone for all times. But one day he thought of something different. He created a body with a soul that had never been there before. He searched trough all the lives that were within and combined genetic informations of those who never reproduced themselves. For this no bodies like this ever had been born. That is how he gave somewhat like birth to us. We are body and soul but since we never have been given life by the universal energy we never had a spirit. We became the Guiding Ones that were born of the memories and ideas of Alpha. He no longer was alone. We helped him built this buildings after his will and also we created the places down on Arcadia.”
“Do you mean, this Alpha is something like god?”
“We do not know about a thing you call god. Alpha is Alpha. He was there right from the beginning of all times and he will be there till all ends.”
“This pretty much describes the action of a god, giving live and rebirth to spirits.” Stan admitted. Zev nodded. But she didn't get the point what all this had got to do with Kai.
“But what is it with Kai? Why does his spirit not find his body?” she finally asked.
“We do not know yet. He is the first of the Brunnen-G that came here so we have no experience in guiding his spirit.”
“None of them came here? But you said all of mankind come here waiting for their rebirth.”
“Yes. All but the Brunnen-G. Their spirits never came here. We know through all the other lives of their existence. We know what circumstances made this whole race to vanish. They left their home-world and spread out to the universe. Some entered the Light Zone and gave birth to the ones that carried their legacy on Brunnis 2. We saw through Alpha when Brunnis 2 was destroyed and hoped to welcome those people at least now for none of their ancestors came here but again their spirits failed to come here. We could not guide them to their new lives. We could not give them rebirth. All we know from the Brunnen-G is out of the memories of other spirits that met them. Alpha felt a deep sadness for he thought Arcadia would have been the right place for the Ancient Brunnen-G to lead another life. It was his only wish ever since he first got aware of their existence. Most places of Arcadia were built out of memories other spirits had carried when they met the Ancient Ones.”
Zev got sad and looked down to Kai's body. He could be the first one of the Brunnen-G given back a life. His spirit was out here when White Woman was right.
“I would not like to return to this body if I was him.” Stanley said after while watching Zev stroking Kai's cheek and face carefully and with so much of desire.
“How can you say that, Stan?” she said angrily.
“Well, see, his body was tortured so badly by the bio-viziers, his life was short and when given back his spirit it just had to end again in pain and agony. If this would have been my last memories connected to my body I would not want to be reunited with it.” Stan supposed.
“But White Woman says that most spirits do not remember their former lives.” Zev stated.
“Yeah and she also said some do remember.”
“So some do.” White Woman confirmed. “That was why we tried to repair this body as good as we could. Since this body can not be destroyed properly, it cannot be reborn. Since he is a Brunnen-G we are not sure if he will be reborn even 'if' the body is destroyed. Alpha decided to let us repair this body for the soul within would at least get a bit of salvation due to the tortures it went trough. Body and soul always long for their spirit that is how a rebirth can be made possible. It is something like an unwritten universal law that it has to be this way.” White Woman stopped for a short while looking outside the window to the entity called Alpha. Then she continued.
“We grew all the missing parts of his body via the Genetikum and replaced those biomechanical ones we could. But we could not re-carbonize his body. And we could not produce the liquid you call protoblood. It is nothing human.”
“It is of an insect.” Stanley mentioned. Zev stroke over Kai's right arm and felt the brace.
“Why did you leave this to him?” She asked.
“For we know the Brunnen-G have been the most feared warriors throughout the universes, the most passionate fighters and most loving humans ever since, Alpha thought of not only correcting the body he also wanted to give perfection to it. The Brunnen-G never were without their individual weapon. They never gave it to another. They even took it to their graves and possibly to their afterlives like it was part of their soul. So as we know body and soul built a unity Alpha supposed this weapon to stay a part of this body and therefore the soul.”
“But without protoblood this body will not be functional.” Zev tossed in. “Perhaps this is the reason why his spirit cannot come back!” she said with raising excitement.
“There is still something left of that liquid. Otherwise the wounds inflicted by removing the biomechanical parts and implanting the missing ones would not have regenerated. This indeed is another perfection of body, Alpha never was thinking of. The body of true warrior.”
“So why can't his spirit find his way then?”
“We do not know. He hoped you could help. She thought you could help.”
“She?” Stanley sounded really interested by now.
“That blue star is a she?” he asked now definitely interested.
“She told us.”
“Oh lady go on!” Zev pushed White Woman to go on.
“She came here few days before his body came. She said she knows him and will guide him here. Alpha was very excited having a star around that would guide a Brunnen-G to him. He communicated to the little blue star and shortly after she started her journey. And few days later she demanded to be given entrance to the Genetikum. She was given permission and Alpha became aware she brought an almost destroyed body and soul with her. It took him a long time and he was well aware that his other try-outs bringing an existing body back to life to his Genetikum had ended up in a big disaster but if he did not try the Brunnen-G would leave forever. He had to try and he wanted Blue Star to help. And she assisted him. She seemed to have a concrete memory of the one you call Kai. We assisted both as good as we could and after two weeks Alpha called us to enter this room and there we found his body.”
Zev stared at White Woman unbelievably. That story sounded more than weird. And how could a star have a memory or even a consciousness?
“But you said, you repaired the body.” Stan said.
“We did just after we found it in this state. Blue Star was so much complaining about it and told us this might be the reason why his spirit did not want to be reunited with it. That is why we searched for the cells, finally grew the missing parts in the Genetikum and replaced them.”
“But he did not wake up, eh?” Stanley got to the point.
“Correct. His spirit did not reunite with his body and soul.”
“And?” Zev wanted her to go on
“And that was when Blue Star went again on a journey. When she returned she brought back that huge insect that sheltered you. She explained that maybe if she can't, you could give him a reason to come back.”
“Give him a reason?”
“Give him a reason. That is what Blue Star said. And she mentioned that there were to humans that had spent a whole eternity with him. Stanley Tweedle and Zev Bellringer from B3K.”
Stan and Zev looked at each other. He then looked outside and saw that wonderful Arcadia outside and the swirling blue energy of Alpha. He also noticed that this pulsing blue star had lowered itself that it could just look trough the top of the window.
“Yeah, a star with a personality looking trough a window. You got completely nuts, Stanley!” he though to himself. But then he became aware of some words White Woman told them.
“Wait, you say, this blue star told you that it is a she and that she knows Kai and will guide him here and that she is not one of the spirits Alpha ever contained?”
“That is what we said, Stanley Tweedle.”
“What do you want to explain, Stan?” Zev asked quite surprised seeing Stan obviously had a thought coming.
“Well, it is just an idea...” he continued “... but might it be that the she-star is one of the Brunnen-G?” he looked questioning to Zev and White Woman.
Zev wanted to say how ridiculous that sounded. She just was breathing in deeply to call him an absolute idiot but then she looked again at Kai and then she looked up to the blue star. It was even more pulsing than it had done before.
“One of the Brunnen-G ...” she thought. Could that be? Could Stanley have had the right idea? She still did not know what really was going on here but she understood that a human life consisted of a trinity of body, soul and spirit. When the body died, the spirit gets separated and goes to Alpha waiting for its rebirth. The body containing the soul goes into some kind of universal genetic library and is reborn and inspirited as long as time goes on. Kai's body could not vanish properly as White Woman said so it would never be added to that library. And the other Brunnen-G haven't got, too. Neither body and soul nor their spirits. Kai mentioned the “Other Zones” where his ancestors might have been gone. That could be a reason why no Brunnen-G ever came here. They could be stuck in such a zone. Willingly or Unwilling. But maybe one made it trough that zone and showed up as this star around here.
Zev stared to that pulsing star while thinking about all of this. On Brunnis they saw a pulsing blue star mating with the dying sun. It also helped them to escape. Yet a blue star guided the Lexx trough space and led them here. Could that just be a coincidence? White Woman mentioned some kind of universal plan. Maybe they were the ones who should guide the last and so the first of the Brunnen-G back to life. She felt a caressing warmth crawling up her body and she closed her eyes for a while. She knew that everything she ever was, was in love with Kai. Hiss loss made it clear to her that she was slowly dying inside since that incident. Now, seeing him lying there, she felt gaining back life. Gaining back some kind of purpose. She wanted to guide his spirit back to life, she wanted to be with him again, wanted her heart beating just for him. And again it came up to her: as long as this heart beats, I will love only you.
She opened her eyes and stared unbelievingly at the blue star. Could it be?
“It is her.” Zev said.
Stanley looked to the star and asked “Who?”
“His love!” Zev answered watching the blue star pulsing again.
“His... love?” Stanley asked subdued. “You mean … the one … you played in that theatre?”
“It must be...” Zev realized with an upcoming sadness.
The blue star went on pulsing. If it really was her that it was not up to Zev any more to bring Kai back to life. He surely wanted to be with his one and only love he ever had and the fact that they weren't able to find at least one piece of him left and that his spirit had followed Blue Star made her feel broken. She started to cry.
“I am afraid ...” she started through sobbing “... we are not the ones who can help him.”
Stan raised an eyebrow. What did come up that lizard mind now? She had the chance to get his love back to life, his body was waiting to be reunited with his spirit again and Zev came up the idea of giving up?
“You’re nuts, Zev?” he asked.
She looked at him with eyes reddened by her tears.
“How can I help him come back here, come back to life, for it was her finding and bringing his body here and guiding us here?” Tears were dropping down her face and fell onto Kai' body. “It is her that wants him back. He answered her call – he never answered our call!”
“Yes, Zev!” Stanley said with a certain blame in his voice “How can a dead man answer to the living ones? Ever thought of that? She could call him because she 'is dead', too! Once and for all for she is, no, was a Brunnen-G!”
Zev looked down to Kai.
“Now, you don't know exactly if it really is her, don't you?”
“I've got that feeling that it is her...” Zev whispered.
“Well, even it is her, if she had been able to bring him back to life, why hasn't she yet and why did she guide us here?”
“She cannot bring him back to life for she is not in the condition to influence the plan of the Living Ones.” White Woman interfered. “And if she is a Brunnen-G, as you suppose, all she could do was to prevent his spirit to get lost in space.” she added.
Stanley looked again to the blue star which just had lowered down itself again as if it was longing to see, what was going on here.
“Can you communicate with her?” Stanley finally asked White Woman.
“Alpha can, so we can.”
“Then just ask her who she is!” he stated.
White Woman looked outside the window to the entity of Alpha and remained silence for a while. Zev began stroking Kai's face again and was searching all of her mind for a good reason that would lead him back to life. She first thought of kissing him again as passionate as she could and then just say that she loves him, but would that be strong enough for him to get back in his body? He had his remaining family here she thought on a second. But his real family and even his love were out there somewhere and he could be with them instead and live his life in another plane. It would all be over and he had no longer to sacrifice again and again. He could stay in the caressing silence of space and come over all the cruelties that had determined his life. She could not find a good reason to come back for all reasons she could think of belonged to her personal desire. But what desire could he have? He never talked about desires for the Dead did not have any desires.
“Her name is Alegria.” White Woman broke the silence. “And she really is not a star but a spirit long lost. But only a spirit. Her body and soul remain in the Other Zone, as she calls it. She found herself in deep space shortly after he must have died. His death must have been unsettled something in the universal order and her spirit was released and separated from the rest. She soon found remaining pieces of Kai, or as she said, it was something like remaining memories. She saw other stars – as she thought they were - following to a certain point and met Alpha. And then it was as we told you. She brought back a piece of him, a dim memory, a tiny part of body and soul, for it is the soul that never forgets and gave it to Alpha.”
“And then you got some kind of rebirth granted for all that you had to go through, Kai.” Zev whispered passionate and full of warmth and desire towards his ears. But his body remained unconscious.
“Alegria, hm?” Stan looked to the pulsing star. “Why didn't she tell you who she really was?”
“We think she did not know, she was a spirit. She never was aware that life consists of the trinity of spirit, soul and body. How could she. She is a Brunnen-G and since they never came here but were lost in another Zone, they could never decipher the meaning of life itself. It is said that they had an unnatural length of life, that they did not die by ageing, that they just vanished from day to day. It was in their believe to vanish to another plane and met there all the Ancient Ones gone before. It ever was and ever would be that way to them.”
“Now she is the first of them to realize that they had lived in a never ending dream, never meant to get reborn or truly reunited.” Stan ended.
“So it seems to us.” White Woman confirmed.
Zev stared at both of them. The Brunnen-G all were remaining in a dreamlike unconsciousness for they did not believe in an afterlife and ever since the first vanished to the Other Zone all of them followed after death. Even the people on Brunnis 2 did for it might be something of a legacy by their ancestors. And for what she had learned while acting in that theatre, the people on Brunnis 2 were only echoes of the once great warriors. They lost their purposes during their unbelievably long lives, possibly they lost their minds for they just existed without a deeper reason. Kai and a few newborns became aware of their purpose, being true warriors and face their fate for the good of all. But Kai was the one who convinced the others. Possibly that was why his spirit did not vanish to the Other Zone by his last death. He always was intend to go beyond existing things. As he said, he wanted more, he wanted to go beyond the ancient walls. He became the last of the Brunnen-G shortly after but now it seemed to be he became the first of them that went beyond the unwritten universal laws and the first of them to get reborn and change the status quo for possibly all of them. Zev got aware that she was enlightened by a pulsing blue ray that came from Blue Star, Alegria. She suddenly felt that she got the reason he needed to hear.
“Kai....” she started with a trembling voice “... you are part of our family. You are the one I desire most and I can't go on without you. Your death was my sentence to die like your people once sentenced you. But we found you. She found you. I can see you.” her voice got stronger and more passionate. Even Stan came closer to her and started clenching his fists.
“Yes, Kai! We can see you! You are right here!” Stanley almost shouted. “We want you back, do ya hear? You can do it, I know!”
“Kai, last of the Brunnen-G...” Zev started again “... you sacrificed twice in your life. Once for your whole race and the second time for us and all human life. You have never been granted to change things for good, but it seems the universe has made another plan for you. You can change everything that was, that is and that will be.” her eyes were full of tears again. “Last of the Brunnen-G, you are supposed to be a true warrior, you are supposed to go beyond, you are supposed to be the 'first' of the Brunnen-G that found back his true passion: the protection of Life itself! Kai! Listen to me!” she cried with an upcoming tone of a Cluster Lizard growl in it. “Your story ain't over!” she cried out loudly and ended up kissing him violently, passionate and with a purity in it she never had expected an felt before.
For a few moments there was silence. No one was breathing. Blue Star, Alegira, had ended up in pulsing, now looking like a tiny blue hole in the star-speckled universe. It seemed like time went blank for a moment.
Then a trembling sound ran through all of them. The whole tower was quivering and they could hear a sound so unearthly, so mourning that it reached the bottom of their souls. Blue clouds of energies where emerging from Alpha and for few second it seemed that Alpha had stopped circling. They spread out into the universe and when Zev finally opened her eyes she saw tears falling down his eyes.
Kai was crying and the mourning came from deep within him, as his soul remembered the last few seconds of his death. He suddenly opened his eyes and jumped off the altar onto his feet like if he was in a fury. Zev was tossed away in his burst of emotions and ended up on the floor with a deep sadness and some feeling of guilt after she had heard that mourning.
Kai stumbled towards the big window embracing his body with both arms as if he was trying to keep something apart from breaking out. He still was weeping and wailing in obvious pain. He tried to breath but it sounded as if something was pressing the air out of his lungs. And with a scream full of pain and agony he broke down onto his knees in front of the window. Tear-drops from his eyes bedewed the black stone floor and he managed to release his embrace and got propped onto his arms while he was leaning forward. He finally started to breath but it sounded as if his lungs were filled with water and he started to cough several times. The he ended up staring to the floor seeing hi face reflecting. His breath was still trembling but slowly he lifted his head and stared unbelievingly through the window. He seemed to search for something.
Then he went on his knees, raised his arms and stared at his hand. He turned them from one side to the other and moved all of his fingers. Then his sight dropped down again on his body and his hands searched for the protoblood and other input slots, slowly becoming aware they were gone. He took a deep breath and decided to lift himself up onto his feet.
Stanley was besides Zev and helped her. Her first impulse to ran to Kai, while he was clumsily trying to stand up, was interrupted by Stan detaining her strongly.
“Let him realize it...” he whispered almost inaudibly and felt that she gave up her tension. When she looked into Stanley's face she saw a tear finding down its way over his cheek.
Then Kai was standing on his feet. He still was staggering a bit but he seemed to be breathing constantly at last. Once again he looked at his hands and then he stroke over his face and over his chest just to stop where his heart was supposed to be. He took in another deep breath and started to laugh in a strange way. It ended up in another cough attack and he started to tumble a bit more but then he turned around making a sidestep to prevent falling onto his knees again.
He looked straight at Zev and Stan that were holding each other hands like to little children. His eyes were reddened by tears but they could see the life in his hazel eyes. They looked spirited. His breath now turned into excitement and his lips were shivering when he intended to speak to them.
“I ...” his voice still was trembling in remembrance of the last torturing moments “I am … alive!” he finally stated and felt down on his knees again while emotions overwhelmed him. Zev could not hold on any moment longer and got rid of Stan running towards Kai. Just in front of him she well down on her knees as well and grabbed him, embracing him that tough he started to cough again. Tears ran loose over her face and she started kissing him in overwhelming joy. His forehead, his eyes, his cheeks and finally his mouth starting to realize he answered her longing with a passionate kiss himself. It felt warm, caressing, longing and the most important – alive. After their lips separated she begged this dream never to end but finally opened her eyes just to stare into his hazel ones. A tear was running down and she did not hesitate and stroke it away with her fingers.
“Alive...” she whispered.

|And here comes the next part of it
“Am I still a Divine Assassin?” Kai asked White Woman.
“Your body is still de-carbonized if it is that what you mean.” she answered with a kind of apologizing tone in her voice.
Kai looked down his body while he was lying on the barrow White Woman had offered him after they went down the centre tower and entered one of the Making-Rooms. Stan an Zev first did not want to go there for everything was just to good to be true and they expected things to turn out very bad within the next moments. But what they saw was not as bad as they thought but definitely weird and a bit scary.
Kai did not hesitate in following White Woman for she had offered to explain his condition and wanted to see if everything was okay with him. He had to lean on the walls of the tower for the first steps down, Zev and Stan assisted him immediately and after a few steps more he made his way downstairs a lot better. Stanley darted a look to Zev as they approached one of the Making-Rooms and realized she was as tensed as he was. They had to expect horrible things behind that door for such things always happened to them. Kai was with them, yes, he certainly would protect them as good as he could, but he was alive now and see him possibly dying again Zev just would have gone crazy. The only thing that soothed Stanley was the fact that White Woman said, Kai's body was still de-carbonized and would regenerate for there was a little bit of protoblood left.
And then the door opened and they entered a room with again that reflecting black stone floor. The walls were made of alabaster stone again and in the centre there were four barrows and a lots of machinery and medical stuff as well as something like a big face in the back of the room. It did not look fierce but it was very big. Two holes as eyes, a nose and a wide opened mouth. It looked a lot like the Library Building on Brunnis. Zev started to shiver for a second as she saw that face in the back as she remembered her almost “burst of life”.
Kai himself did not hesitate in following White Woman directly to one of the barrows, surrounded by several very old looking medical devices. He was looking curiously on each of them just like a child exploring its surroundings. Then he saw the metal face in the back and remained somehow drunk in memories. He breathed in deeply as Zev laid her hand on his shoulder and looked into her eyes. He knew she must have felt similar when she saw the face.
“This is the Genetikum.” White Woman said as if she was asked a question.
“The Genetikum?” Kai asked.
“A kind of machine that is directly connected with Alpha.” and she looked aside out of one window and they could see the circling blue entity called Alpha. It seemed that they were as close to it that they could probably touch it.
Kai walked to the window and stared at Alpha like he was trying to listen to something.
“They say, your body came through the Genetikum.” Zev said following him. He glanced over his shoulder and then continued staring at Alpha.
“And she said they repaired your body as good as they could...” she finished, nestling her to his body. Kai now looked at the metal face, then into Zev's eyes and again back to Alpha. His face was motionless just like it used to be the last 6000 years. But his eyes were full of emotions, full of questions and a lot more.
“How...?” his still a bit trembling voice asked. Zev did not feel comfortable with his question for she now had to explain that it was Alegria who had actually brought him back here. She hesitated and grabbed his hand pressing it strong for she was fighting with tears again.
“The blue star you can see outside was your guide to Alpha.” White Woman broke the silence.
Kai gazed at the darkness of the universe and became aware of the slowly moving star. He had seen it before when he was in the centre tower but he did not give any weight to it.
“It... it is...” Zev's voice was trembling and she stared outside the window. She suddenly felt his warm hand stroking over her cheek and chin, softly lifting her head up so that their eyes could met. She saw he definitely had no idea what she was upset about. She swallowed loudly closed her eyes for a few moments and was about to get lost in this very long missed touch but then she breathed in deeply and formed her words.
“... it is … Alegria.” she finally managed to say. She expected everything by now and looked away as fast as she could. She even let his hand go and turned her back on him. Stanley saw Zev was close to collapse and started to walk over to them. But it was Kai that reached out for her first. He laid his hand on her shoulder stopping her from walking away. She jerked and held on her breath while turning around very slowly. Then, after an unbearable long time for her, she looked into his face and saw his eyes full of compassion and shortly after a faint smile around his mouth.
“You don't have to be afraid, Zev.” he said in that kind of arousing deep voice. Zev was confused and obviously Kai could see it.
“I am here now, with you. Nothing more, nothing less.” he continued.
“But... but you loved her so much...” she came up closer to him.
“I did.” he confirmed.
“... you said you would love only her...” she was almost back in his arms again, his hand still resting on her shoulder.
He looked to Blue Star and breathed in deeply.
“As long as this heart was beating...” he sighed out into the night sky. Blue Star was pulsing for a few moments as it was lowering itself a bit. Zev was now standing in front of him, she could see his chest moving up and down while he was breathing. She could sense his warmth and she felt her blood rushing into her head.
“But this heart had stopped beating a thousands of years ago...” he slowly lowered his head and he stopped looking at the blue star. Zev and Kai's eyes met once again and she slowly realized what he just was saying.
“Alegria will remain my ever first love, the one that showed me I was more than a simple minded Newborn and taught me what sweet embrace true passion can be.” he softly stroked over Zev's head and followed the shape of her long hair falling down her body until his hand rested on her hips.
“No one can supplant this memories...” his voice was giving her the shivers. “... but they are now memories. Memories of a life long begone.” Zev stared at his eyes. She just would like to pull him down on the floor and show him how passionate she could be but she just could not move within his very careful and soft embrace.
“I am not the same Kai I was when His Divine Shadow killed me. I am not the same Kai I was while being a Divine Assassin. And I am not the Kai that was with you for the last thousand years. How could I?” he once again placed his left hand under her chin and lifted her head up softly.
“I am now Kai, first of the Brunnen-G who is about to chance the circles of time...” and he proved his statement while ending up kissing Zev wild and passionately, pulling her nearer into his embracing arms. She felt like a blooming rose and her legs got weak.
“A-hem...” Stanley coughed slightly standing next to them, having observed that White Woman had placed some of those strange and old-looking medical devices around one of the barrows. She just had finished and was looking at the both kissing each other passionately. Stanley himself was wandering what that Guiding One Woman was thinking about all this.
“It is good to see him dealing with his really unusual rebirth that well.” White Woman answered immediately. Stanley jerked and stared a kind of afraid towards her. This was the second time she answered a question he was thinking of.
Zev and Kai ended in kissing each other. Kai with upcoming interest in what was coming up next and Zev with upcoming anger for she again was ripped off her dreams coming true. Stan had a very very bad timing. Kai stepped beside Zev and looked towards White Woman.
“We did not want to disturb you, but Alpha wants to know if your body is doing fine.” she offered him the barrow to obviously lay down. “We do not have good experiences with bodies not reborn the destined way.” she continued.
Kai lifted an eyebrow but followed White Woman's wish to examine his body. He hoped to find answers.
“We will explain you in detail the circumstances that led you here.” She instructed him to pull over his upper clothes and Zev suddenly assisted with upcoming interest. His body was like she imagined in her dreams, skinny but athletic. Nothing was left of the frightening sights when they had exposed him during their trip on K-Town. Well, she had not seen his body underneath his trousers but what she had felt there was as encouraging according to the things she saw now. She just wanted to start opening his trousers as White Woman interfered.
“That is not necessary.” White Woman said. Zev stopped immediately and felt she blushed. Stanley came up with a wide grin on his face and even Kai showed an ambiguous smile while sitting down on the barrow. Zev stared to the ground and clasped to his black top that hard, that her knuckles went white. How could she have done that? It was so embarrassing. But on the other hand she still was a love slave with increased libido. And now the one man of her desire was alive and partly exposed to her. She simply had to try! She was confident with that and looked up again and saw, how White Woman placed some tiny round sticker-like pads all over Kai's chest. Those pads were connected to cables that went into an unknown tiny machine. And this machine seemed to be wired to the Genetikum. In fact every medical device here seemed to be wired to the Genetikum – except of the things that looked like surgical instruments.
Kai laid down on the barrow that was covered with a white blanket. He was listening the explanations of White Woman, how his body got here, Zev realized. Stanley stepped aside her and grinned like a boy that had a trickery coming up his mind.
“What is it?” she whispered for she did not want to interfere with White Woman. But she did watch every step the other woman made and she carefully supervised everything that Guiding One took in her hand or used to examine Kai' body while telling him the story.
“Welcome back!” Stanley grinned and Zev looked at him a bit angry. She could nothing for being a love slave with special needs. And presented such a chance...
“It is good to see you happy again.” he said with a more severe voice and she smiled again. Yes. She was happy but when Kai jumped off that altar she first felt guilty. After his confession that Alegria only was a memory to him, she felt a great relief. She had thought that he would have decided to get back to Alegria that she was and ever would be his only love and she had to spent the rest of her live heart-broken and unsatisfied until she died somewhere out in Space on the Lexx or a distant planet. But now everything was about to change. She gazed over her shoulder and looked to Blue Star Alegria that was pulsing in slow waves. Zev almost thought to feel like Alegria was showing her that it was okay the way things were about to come. Maybe Alegria ever wanted to see Kai happy and alive again. Giving another chance to lead a life and change the future.
“Everything seems to be all-right by now.” White Woman said, watching closely some monitors of the medical devices and obviously the eyes of the Genetikum thus there was nothing to be seen in there. “Your organs are fully functional and the blood is circling properly.”
“The blood?” Kai asked.
“Your organs need blood to stay functional and alive.”
“I am still a Divine Assassin?”
“Your body is still de-carbonized. The flesh, sinews, most parts of your bones and muscles of your body are and therefore need the liquid your friends call protoblood. And this is a problem we soon have to face since only very little of it is left.”
Kai waited until White Woman had removed the pads from his chest.
“What will happen when I run out of protoblood?” he asked while sitting up on the barrow. Zev immediately came towards him and held out his black top to him.
“We are not quite sure about that but since this protoblood keeps your de-carbonized body capable of moving, we suggest you would end up lying somewhere without able to move. You will remain conscious for your organs will still be functional as long as you do eat and drink but nothing more. Imprisoned within this body till we find a way to either produce protoblood, re-carbonize your body or we know how your body can be destroyed so you can be reborn a day.”
“...if I would be reborn.” Kai added.
“If, yes, this is another point we are not sure about for you are a Brunnen-G.”
Kai breathed in deeply.
“So how long until my protoblood will expire?” he asked.
“We cannot say exactly. The lesser you need to regenerate, the longer it would last, for most of your body needs the normal blood to be supplied. Your heart pumps a mixture of blood and protoblood through your body. We restored the main arteries and veins so your organs can be supplied properly. The rest of your body takes that protoblood, whenever needed, out of your blood-circle. Maybe you have some weeks left. We are really working on that issue since that day your body came here. But no results yet. We simply do not have any clue for this protoblood seems not to be human nor simply artificial.”
“It was produced by the Gigashadow.” Kai answered while standing up and pulling on his clothes again.
“What is a Gigashadow.” White Woman asked
“It is a relict of the Insect Civilisation my ancestors tried to eliminate. Obviously they had failed before and we had to fight it again and it was killed by entering the fractal core between the Light Zone and the Dark Zone over 4000 years ago. We could manage to store a small amount of protoblood and kept it on the Lexx.”
“An insect.” White Woman said obviously drunken deep in thoughts “We don't have any genetic knowledge of insects. Only humans belong to Alpha. We know the story of His Divine Shadow and his Divine Order out of the memories from the ones that died, but they are very unspecific and imprecise. They are very unclear.” she remained silent for a while and Kai finally managed to get back into his clothes without bringing Zev into another delicate situation.
“You have something left of the protoblood in that Lexx?” she finally broke the silence.
“We...” Kai wanted to start but was interrupted by Stanley.
“Well... see... there is something else, we need to tell you Kai.” Stan said feeling very uncomfortable. Kai bowed his head and looked at him.
“..you don't know, because it happened after you ...” he stumbled “... after your death, the Lexx died, too...”
Kai now really looked surprised.
“...but as it is now the 'motto of the day' Lexx did somehow reproduce himself and now we have got a small but growing Little Lexx.” Stanley ended his explanation.
“But no Cryopods or protoblood is there...” he had to admit.
Kai's eyes got sad for a tiny little moment but then he nodded.
“Then I must find another way to deal with it.” he said. Zev laid a hand on his shoulder and Stan did on the other one.
“And we will help you!” Zev said.
“We will help, too.” White Woman joined in. “Maybe you want to go down to Arcadia and have some rest? Alpha would be pleased to see at least one Brunnen-G down on his Arcadia.”
White Woman walked to the door. “He really would be and we have constructed a lot of places and buildings known to your ancestors, Kai.”
“How could you?” he asked with surprise and curiosity.
“For the Brunnen-G never came we had to rely on the memories other humans had. There aren't much memories of your great ancient culture but some very precise. Alpha advised us to make buildings and places as accurate as we could for he believed, that when given a new home, the Brunnen-G would possibly come back.” She bowed her head down.
“But they never came.” Kai ended.
“None. None but you.” White Woman said with excitement. “Maybe others will follow, now that you are here and now that Blue Star Alegria has proven to be a Guiding One for the Brunnen-G.”
“I do not know...” Kai answered and gave a short look to Alegria. “Maybe she can guide them.” he than looked back to Stan and Zev and came up with a faint smile.
“Are you going to accompany me taking a look on Arcadia?” he asked and Stanley almost ran into the door for he just wanted to get to another more real place than this Genetikum-Making-Room things. Zev stepped aside Kai and took his hand. She did not have to answer. Her decision was obvious and so they followed a fast walking Stanley Tweedle. Down to the first gallery and onward downstairs to the entrance. Kai was looking around curiously for he had not seen this place entirely yet. Before the entrance they found their spacesuits and suddenly became aware of another problem. They only had two and Kai was alive now.
The two looked at Kai and told him they had no Moths to fly with yet and that they would have to walk through Little Lexx mouth and so on the outside with no air for them to breathe.
“Then you two go first and one of you will return with a suit for me.” Kai decided.
“I will not leave you behind again!” Zev said and even Stan nodded.
“I am sure that nothing will happen to me here.” he tried to convince them but they obviously had seen to much evil and still they seemed to be affected by his last death. He could understand and he felt some kind of comfortable that they did not want him to stay behind, to be alone. But he was not alone. White Woman was here and Blue Star Alegria.
“I am not alone here.” he finally said. And while still thinking about their possibilities they almost not realized that White Woman was approaching them. It was Kai and his still above average senses that noticed her first and turned around.
“We wanted to ask if we can join your journey to Arcadia. We could guide you to a good place and we could help if anything happens.”
“Anything happens?” Stanley asked with upcoming fear.
“To his body. We are still concerned if he will manage his rebirth.”
“Oh yeah, that seven-days thing...” Stanley muttered and Kai got curious.
“Seven-days thing?” he asked Stan and White Woman. Zev felt an upcoming anger within. Stanley really had a very bad timing in telling things.
“Alpha tried to give rebirth to bodies to this place before. But none of them survived more than seven days. They went crazy, killed themselves or ended up with their minds lost in space and therefore starved to death. They somehow knew it was not the right place to be for them.” White Woman explained and Zev watched Kai very closely.
“You think this will happen to me?” he asked.
“We do not know. Your arrival here was very different from the other ones and you show no signs of feeling uncomfortable. Your mind seems to be functional and so do your other body arts as far as you have them. No signs that your spirit is about to break loose.”
He looked down his body then to Stan and Zev. He did not feel anything of what White Woman was afraid of. And he got more and more aware that he was feeling. He felt Zev's warm hand in his, he could smell her slight scent of fresh an pure dew that reminded him to the scent the woods on Brunnis 2 had when it was about to rain. Experiencing this he really wanted to overcome this possible expiry-date and get to know more about Zev.
“I am feeling fine, I guess.” he finally said and Stanley breathed out loudly.
“Man, what took you so long with that answer! I was almost imagining your complete breakdown on that news” Stan answered. And he was kicked to his shin hardly by Zev.
“I must get used to my feelings for it was a very long time I had none. It still is not easy for me to tell you exactly what my feelings are about.” Kai explained and held back Zev softly while she was up to kick Stan again.
“So can we join you?” White Woman tried to start up the conversation. The three of them looked on each other and came to a silent accordance.
“You can join, Lady.” Stan spoke. “But we still have the problem with the spacesuits. We only have two over here and we need another two for Kai and you to make it safely to Little Lexx.”
“We do not need a spacesuit for we do not really live.” White Woman answered.
“Okay Stan, then walk back to the Lexx and get Kai another suit. I will stay here with them.” Zev said and pushed Stanley to move on.
“Walk to the Lexx? Is your ship down on this moon?” White Woman asked.
“Yes, it is. Little Lexx does not need that much space yet and so we could manage to land it here.” Stan said while putting on his suit.
“Then we can walk there all together without your suits.” The Guiding One said.
“But what about the air?”
“This moon has got enough gravity to keep up an atmosphere and therefore air. How else could you have survived here for we have no window-glasses or something like that.” There was a tone of amusement within White Woman's voice and Zev and Stand both felt stupid and incredibly unknowing. They had wondered how the air stayed within for they could not see and glasses in the windows or obvious energy fields holding it in.
“Then let us go...” Kai laid his hand on their backs and softly pushed them forward to the entrance door. Stanley did not feel very comfortable for he still was awaiting something evil and deadly within this place but when pushed outside and breathing in fresh air he started to relax. Kai needed to learn to be more aware of he fact that he now would be affected and hurt for he was living again. He had to give up that state of being a non-feeling and hard to kill Divine Assassin. If there had not been air, he would have suffocated as well as they would have. He had to talk about that to him later.

“This is very impressive.” White Woman said when she saw Little Lexx for the first time on the surface of this moon. Kai nodded for had not seen it yet either. It really looked like a small version of the Old Lexx. Some parts were different now like its tail and the little lantern-thing hanging over its head. But especially the eyes and face, if you could call it a face, remembered him most of Old Lexx. He had no idea that the Lexx was able to reproduced itself, neither had His Divine Shadow. There was nothing in his memory about this. But what had he expected? His Divine Shadow also had no good answer to what the Gigashadow was. Only prophecies and rumours he knew about that giant insect and it came up to Kai, that though inhabited by the insect spirit it seemed that the human host's memories were separate from the insect ones. He would have to deal with this later.
“Now welcome on board!” Stanley said while entering Little Lexx trough its mouth. White Woman was very curious and seemed to watch every detail underneath her hood. Stan wondered how a bright white hood could spent so much darkness that he could never see her face. Maybe she had none? He frowned immediately at this thought and was happy to be back at the galleries and then leading them all towards the bridge.
“Indeed a little Lexx.” Kai said when entering the gallery. Everything was smaller than on the old one but the hallways and rooms seemed to be placed exactly like on Old Lexx.
“There are no Cryopods left?” Kai asked Zev while following Stan to the bridge.
Zev shook her head. “No full artificial parts are here. We have the Dining-Room and Showers full equipped, there are our bedrooms and even two moth-breeders in the mothbreeding-area. We have a tiny room where the old cryochamber was, connections seem to be prepared for further installation but nothing more. And there is a small room where the brains of Divine Predecessors have been stored like on Old Lexx. Maybe the artificial machines could not be copied by Old Lexx.”
“It very looks like this.” he looked at her and smiled. He never realized she could combine things that good. For a woman grown up in a box and therefore have not very much experience with technical or other things besides her wifely duties, she dealt with new surroundings very good and came up with good ideas. Surely her curious and exploring Cluster Lizard part helped her.
“It is good that I do not need a cryopod now.”
“Yes, it is.” she smiled back at him and thought of the wonderful moment when she offered him to share her bed for there was no third bedroom. And she became aware she blushed again. She gazed at him for a short second and felt relieved he was not watching her. They entered the bridge.
“Lexx, say welcome to old and new friends!” Stanley said while standing on his commanding post.
“Welcome to old and new friends!” Little Lexx answered.
White Woman approached Stanley and looked around with upcoming excitement.
“It can speak?” she said.
“Yes, but only to me for I hold the key!” he answered with pride.
“The old key works for Little Lexx?” Kai asked.
“No. After we lost Old Lexx and landed on Little Lexx I got a new key from it for I told it, I am its captain.” Kai seemed to be satisfied with that but White Woman was not.
“A key?” she asked an Stan felt uncomfortable again to explain.
“Well, yes, a key. A genetic key if you can say that.”
“A genetic key...” she looked at the screen and then to Stanley again.“Are you an insect as well?”
“Oh no no no no! That has got nothing to do with it!” he answered rapidly. “Kai, could you?”
Kai looked to Stan an the Guiding One that now looked at him.
“I do not know exactly how it works but as for I have the memories of His Divine Shadow I have got some knowledge about it.” he started. “The key is like a genetic signature that corresponds partially with the genetic structure of the Lexx. The other parts correspond to the humanoid genetic structures. I do not know how the bioviziers or else developed such a key but since it seems to be a combination of insect and human genetic information, I think that the insect part of His Divine Shadow gave its genetic knowledge and probably cells to the bioviziers and ordered them to create a key that his human host could use to interfere with insect technology … or insect based organic material like Lexx is.”
“The bioviziers. They seem to have a great knowledge far beyond ours. Maybe we should search their memories for how protoblood is produced.”
“If you could do that I think you might find an answer for the bioviziers made me.” Kai answered with a bitter taste in his mouth. He was glad to have neither memories nor feelings about his conversion into a Divine Assassin though he knew from others what they had done to him. He had once seen another man converted into an Assassin. He had to see it for he had been sent after this victim and was ordered to bring the body back for final punishment. Grand Biovizier Mantrid was up to to experiment with this one and therefore he asked for another Assassin to be around for his new achievements and enhancements could cause a malfunction. Kai had been there the whole process as he now realized. Things turned out bad for Mantrid tried new programs on this subject and implanted new weapons and other unknown devices into the body and brain. Something went wrong with the programming given to the new Assassin while still most parts of his body were opened and about to me modified.
The tortured body suddenly jerked for several times and then jumped onto its feet while loosing some of the biomechanical parts that just were about to be implanted. Surgery instruments flew across the room and an unnatural mourning came up the throat of the new Assassin. Kai was ordered to terminate him immediately and he did not hesitate with that. But that last impression he had of this Assassin was the sight of relief in his eyes. Could it be that he was aware of what just was happening to him? Kai of course did not think about that while being an Assassin but now as more and more memories came up to him he felt quite uncomfortable with this thought. If there really was a possibility for an Assassin to wake up during its conversion he was glad not to have as it was his turn. He frowned and some sort of sickness crawled up his belly.
“Is everything all right with you?” he heard Zev's warm but concerned voice. She must have realized he got lost for a moment in his memories and obviously she saw he felt not comfortable with them.
“I am all right.” he tried to soothe her. “Just old memories.” But his voice told her they were more than just old memories. Probably very bad ones and she made him sit down on the rail of the bridge and softly stroke over his cheek. He closed his eyes for a moment to deal better with the upcoming sickness and feeling Zev next to him really helped him.
White Woman came over to them and placed her hands onto his forehead and then chest. She could not find any signs of decay yet but she stayed concerned for it was Alpha that ordered her to ensure Kai would stay alive. She would have to deal more with his memories for they seemed to hurt him a lot. And disbalance in this early state of rebirth could cause the trinity to collapse. She sighed and turned around to Stanley who was watching them.
“Shall we take our journey?” he asked.
“We think it would be the best for him to go some place to eat, drink and rest and that is not dealing with his memories.” White Woman answered. “Everything here seems to make more and more memories come up to him and in this early state of rebirth we won't risk loosing him.”
“No. We won't!” Stan said and lowered his hand to the now appearing control panel. “Lexx?”
“I order you to leave this moon and land on that planet in front of you. It is called Arcadia.”
“As you command.”
A tremor went through Little Lexx while starting its engines. White Woman laid a hand on the commanding post for she obviously was not used to such a travel.
“Everything is okay, Lady.” Stan said to her. Damn, he even did not know her name.
Another tremor could be felt then everything was silent and they could feel nothing of Lexx's movement. But they could follow its flight on the screen. The moon grew more and more tiny while leaving it behind and Arcadia became much more impressive to them.
“Any special coordinates to go to?” Stan asked White Woman.
“We are thinking of a good place for Kai.” she remained silent for a few moments. “Can you fly the Lexx to 29.65 on x-axis and 135.35 on y-axis? We think that would be a good place for all of you to recover.”
“Lexx, you heard what...” he stopped and leaned forward to her “What exactly was your name?”
“We are the Guiding Ones.” she answered.
“I know, but you must have an individual name. Like Kai and Zev have and like I have.”
“We do not have individual names for we have no spirit that gives us a name.”
Stanley sighed. She really was hard to get. Having no name. He did not want to call her White Woman or Guiding One. He could not handle her being around them but not being an individual.
“You can give us a name if that makes it easier for you.”
He stared at her. “Can you read minds?”
“Yours is easy to read.” Damn! She could read minds! At least his! Stanley had to swallow and looked to Kai and Zev but they did not follow this conversation for Zev was about to make Kai feel better. She had sat down besides him and was telling him a story from Earth when she did that wrestling stuff. He guessed she did it do distract him from his obvious sickness and it seemed to work for he was listen very closely.
“Ok, Lexx, fly to the coordinates you just heard.”
“As you command, Stanley.” and it change its course a bit.
“What about … hm … Lola?” Stanley asked White Woman while watching Little Lexx approaching Arcadia.
“Lola?” Zev could not think of naming a woman Lola.
“If you want us to name Lola....” White Woman answered.
“Wait, no. Let's think of something different..”
“Why not name her after someone you know and like, like Lyekka or Bunny?” Zev teased him.
“We do not want to be given a name that belongs to another.” White Woman said.
“Hm... Kai, say, what is the word for 'guide' in your language?” Stanley asked him.
“It is the same word as in your language for we speak the same language, Stan, but I think you want to know what it is called in the language of my ancestors.” he smiled.
“Well, erm, yes. If that's possible?”
Kai was thinking about for a while and was looking to the screen as now more and more shapes of Arcadia got visible. Big woods could be seen, a lake and some rivers. A very nice place and so rural. It seemed not to be inhabited or “infected” by technology. If Brunnis did once look like this?
“I cannot exactly translate 'guiding one' but a the term 'guide' is 'ceannaire' in my ancestor's language.”
Stan looked at Kai. “Nothing more?” Kai bowed his head for he did not understand what Stan wanted to say.
“You remember that bird sign on Brunnis? Its two meanings?” he explained and Kai remained silent for a few seconds thinking about another meaning.
“I cannot remember another meaning, Stan.” he finally said.
“Well, than I just can hope that it really has no other meaning and giving her that name will not end up in whatever kind of death to me.”
“I am not going to kill you for giving her that name, Stan.” Kai said with his monotone voice. Then he bowed his head and looked at Zev. “At least not if she feels comfortable with it.” and he showed a faint smile. Zev started to laugh.
“Oh... you!!!” Stan had to smile and even started laughing for he realized that former dead man was about to tease him with that sombre tone in his voice. Smart guy! Very smart.
“So then, Guiding One, would you like to be given the name 'Ceannaire'?” Stanley turned towards White Woman.
“We would be proud of being given a name out of the Ancient Ones language.” she said with excitement in her voice.
“Then you are welcome, Ceannaire.” he smiled. One step closer to her, he thought.
“Shall I land over that place, Stanley?” Little Lexx interrupted the little ceremony. The four of them looked to the screen and saw a wonderful place. It was some kind of square beneath a great lake with plenty of blue water in it. On that square they saw a few buildings made of ochre-coloured sandstone and metal attachments like balconies and window frames on them. The general form was very similar to the buildings they saw on Brunnis but they were not as brown and old-looking. It was a mixture of sand and metal, of straight and precise forms but scattered with round, kind of organic forms built of metal. Possibly the rusty metal gave the old look to the buildings on Brunnis for the progressive rust-corrosion ran over the ochre surface and was not cleaned up for no one was there to to the job.
That square was surrounded by those few buildings but one side was left open, the side of the square that headed to the lake. They saw a fountain with yet not recognizable figures on it. They were to high above to see the details. The Square itself was built into a clearing in the woods. Towards the lake to woods split up and revealed a green and flower-speckled grassland that was surrounding the lake and after it taking its path through the woodlands like a green street. On the right side of the lake, near the square, it looked like some agricultural fields had been arranged as well as a field that was covered by a yellowish-golden plant with long peaks on its top. The winds seemed to create flowing waves on the surface of that field. Most of the crew had never seen such things before, nature itself had been a very rare good since the time of the Divine Order.
“What is this?” Zev asked Kai staring at this wild but beautiful nature.
“I cannot tell you exactly for I am not very familiar with plants but it could be some sort of grain.”
“I've never seen such things before... they are so different from all I have seen yet.”
“This is a very pure form of nature. Without any technical influences yet. This is something very rare those days, I guess.”
“Can we use it somehow?”
“If it is a sort of grain we can use it to make food.”
“We can eat it?”
“As far as I remember, you can crush the grain and get a substance called flour. This you can use to make food like a thing called bred.”
“Bred... I'd like to make food!” Zev said.
“Yeah, Zev, remember when you made us food in Prime Ridge?” Stanley asked. Zev looked to the floor.
“It was my first try!”
“And it ended up in a black, charred disaster.” Stan added.
“I am sure we can learn how to use it and make food of it.” Kai finally said and Zev smiled awkwardly.
“I am hungry, Stan.” Little Lexx added and Stan an Zev came up with a laugh. Even Kai smiled. Maybe Ceannaire did, but still her face was hidden under the hood.
“I'm sure we'll find some food out there for you, Lexx.” Stan said and they watched while Little Lexx approached the left side of the lake to land.
“Your ship needs to eat?” Ceannaire asked.
“Yes. It it part organic and it is growing. It needs food like other spaceships need fuel.” Stan answered.
“Will it eat you?”
“No! Never! It knows what to eat or not!... most times.” Ceannaire looked at him.
“Well, see, I can tell it what to eat and what not.”
“And you have proven that, Stan!” Zev said with a wide grin on her face.
“May I eat this planet?” Little Lexx asked.
“No! Definitely no! Do you hear?”
“I do hear you, Stan.”
“We will bring you food! You won't eat up this planet!” he commanded.
“It could eat Arcadia?”
“The Lexx was supposed to be fed by organic material delivered from the protein bank on the Cluster. Criminals, heretics, unfaithful people and everyone else not fitting in the system were sentenced to death by giving their applicable organic material to the protein bank. It was a good way to feed the Lexx and get rid of any threats to the Divine Order.” Kai explained. “In order to convert any organic material, a so pure and natural planet like Arcadia would match for the Lexx to eat and grow. It could eat Arcadia but it would take a long time and it is not necessary for I think we can grow enough food to satisfy it.”
“I will not eat Arcadia.” Little Lexx answered to the command of Stan. Ceannaire relaxed obviously.
“You have a very strange ship.” she said. A tremor went trough little Lexx while it was now landing on the surface. Like Old Lexx it went down tail-forward and then lowered the body down. It was good that this Lexx was not full-grown yet for there was not very much space for landing. It landed at lot more smoother on the grassy surface and then it giggled.
“What is it with you, Lexx?” Stanley asked.
“It feels funny. This green material is tickling me and there are a lot of funny things in it.”
“Some are moving underneath my body and some are flying around and do some noises.”
“I guess there are a lot of animals living on this planet.” Kai suggested.
“Just watch them, Lexx. Do not eat them until I tell you!” Stan said.
“I won't eat them until you tell me.” it giggled again. “I think I like them, Stan.”

Her very wild dreams led her back to consciousness while having an overwhelming ecstasy in her very dirty Kai-fantasy. She took in a deep breathe and woke up slowly with her feelings slowly receding. She opened her eyes and realized she was looking out of the window. She must have slept for a long while for she could see the last hints of the sun and a few stars already had encountered the night-sky. She looked around, gazed at the stars and then saw the circling entity called Alpha. From down here it resembled something they had called “Northern Light” on Earth. It had blue circling clouds, pulsing and vanishing, renewing and and dimming waves of energy and all surrounded by now really impressive looking three moons. It had something soothing.
“Doesn't it look beautiful ...” she turned around with spread-out arms to caress her beloved one but they grabbed the emptiness of the other side of the bed.
“K... Kai?” her eyes got wide and her heart almost jumped out of her mouth.
“Kai?!” she jumped off the bed. There still was his imprint on the side where he was laying. She even could smell him... Smell him? She never realized he had a scent. Was that new? She knelt down on his side and sniffed the pillow down to the bed end. She had never smelled such a scent before, at least not in this combination. There was a part of something water-like fresh smell, comparable to that ferns she had seen while visiting Garden. And another part remembered her of the Brunnis fountain on this square, like wet sandstone. The last part was something different and very intense at least for her Cluster Lizard olfaction ... she had never smelled it before... it had something smoky in it but still natural... Sandalwood! That was it! That was the perfect description of it. He smelled like Sandalwood.
But what was Sandalwood? How did this come up her mind? She was confused and looked around the room. Sounds from the outside reached her ears, those chirruping animals had started another strange melody. Some birds joined that unfamiliar but comfortable music of the night. Birds she had heard while they were with Oberon. And then voices. Laughter. Stanley and Ceannaire. And... Kai!
She ran out of the bedroom, vaguely realizing the building was enlightened by candles thus there were electric lamps installed. She stood on the gallery leaning over it and saw the three of them sitting around the table. A lot of food was spread over it and Stanley had an intense conversation with Ceannaire. And he was there, too!
Kai said with them on the table listening closely to Stanley's story of how they escaped the Cluster and fled into the Dark Zone. He was holding some sort of fruit, she suggested, she could not see it exactly but he now bit a piece of it! He was eating! Kai was eating a fruit! And now he even drank something out of a very weird looking sort of jar, like if a child had made it. And then he looked upstairs and a smile surrounded his hazel-eyes.
“Zev...” he said with his deep voice and slowly stood up from his chair, presenting another one to her. Some plate was already arranged there with colourful looking fruits on it and another jar placed besides.
“Will you join us?” he asked. His voice sounded fresh and strong, like he had recovered from the past happenings.
Zev took a fast step downstairs and almost fell for she did not watch her step closely and her legs had gotten somehow weak by this invitation. Together with her platform boots and this wooden obviously hand-made stairs, it had almost ended up in a disgracing disaster. But she had fast reflexes and just rolled downstairs in her Cluster Lizard style.
Kai walked towards her and Stanley commented this little interlude with “See what I told you?” And Ceannaire first seemed to look to Stanley then turned around again. But under that hood, there still was no face to see.
“Why didn't you wake me up?” Zev asked while grabbing his arms, pulling him closer, staring into his life-bearing eyes and finally ending up stroking over his chest with upcoming memories of her latest dream.
“You seemed to be happy with your dreams and so I decided to let you sleep.” he said with his very arousing voice.
“But you should have waken me! I was afraid something happened to you when I found your side of the bed empty!” she looked away shyly for she realized he must had noticed that she had an exciting dream.
“Then I will wake you next time.” he answered and carefully stroke over her hair. It was blond now, very soft. He liked her silver-blue hair as well, the red one had taken much to get used to but the blond colour now suited her very good. Lyekka had done a very impressive job when recreating Zev's body. Very impressive and sensual. And while thinking about Zev and her wonderful body he came closer to her unwittingly and they ended up in a wild and passionate kiss. He had her head between his strong hands and she grabbed into his bun with the one hand and the other hand was wrapped around his loin. His hands slowly moved downward her neck and he finally pulled her closer to him, still kissing her. Their bodies were pressed closed to each other and she felt her blood rushing into her head and her legs started to tremble and finally got weak and she slumped down into his strong arms.
“Zev!?” he held her trembling body in his arms. “Is everything all right?” he asked looking very concerned and even Stanley had jumped onto his feet and was now with them. Zev first did not hear Kai but she saw his sensual lips moving. She smiled and stroke over his cheek while her blood calmed down a bit.
“Zev? Are you all right?” Kai asked again slowly lowering her to the ground and feeling her pulse. Zev closed her eyes, wailing in this caressing sort of embrace and realized she could smell that arousing scent again.
“Sandalwood...” she moaned and opened her eyes again. She became more and more aware that three people were looking at her in concern.
“Sandalwood?” Stanley asked her “Who is Sandalwood?” Ceannaire gave a jar with water to Kai and he lifted her head a bit and carefully placed it onto her lips. Zev drank a bit and her head did become clearer, her blood had calmed down and her senses returned to normal. She winked two or three times.
“What... what happened?” Zev said while she sat up. Kai helped her to get back on her feet. She was still a bit weak on them but with Kai holding her and leading towards a chair, she got stronger.
“Well, you looked like you were about to pass out, after...” Stanley started to explain while Kai filled her jar again and handed it over to her.
“The Brunnen-G had been very passionate. Only strong people could stand them, as far as we know.” Ceannaire said.
“She is part Cluster Lizard. I cannot imagine something stronger.” Kai said offering Zev something to eat. Zev blushed again. He just had been given her a compliment.
“I think we all have to rest for we had to face a lot of things for the past thousands of years.” He looked into her eyes and then to Stan. “All of us.”
Stanley nodded. “Yeah, that's right...” he returned to his chair and Ceannaire was looking to all of them in turns. These three people had been trough very strange happenings, she thought. Stanley a former backup assistant courier had been captured by pirates and handed over to the Divine Order, carving out a miserable existence from that moment on and given another chance by becoming captain of the Lexx. They had to face the Dark Zone and the Gigashadow, that what she knew so far. He had a lot more to tell.
And Zev Bellinger of B3K, a former ugly woman was sentenced to be turned into a love slave for she had not fulfilled her wifely duties. But the transformation was only in body not in mind. And even in this process something had went wrong: parts of a Cluster Lizard had been added in her genetic structure. And she, too, could escape with the Lexx.
And there was Kai, Last of the Brunnen-G that time, murdered by His Divine Shadow and then abused by the bio-viziers with their terrifying experiments. He had to serve His Divine Shadow for over 2000 years as a Divine Assassin, slaughtering heretics and every other person no matter what sex or age that was not conform the the Divine Orders rules. He was sent after Stan and Zev onto the Lexx to kill them but instead he regained his memory and killed the body of His Divine Shadow. The three of them escaped to the Dark Zone but had to come back for the thing called Protoblood and they had to destroy the Gigashadow. So far Ceannaire knew the story of them and she would write it down and place it in the library of the Memory Building. She had to hear more of them, Stanley was very precise but it was only his side of the story.
“Oh! That's good!” Zev was eating with growling sounds a fruit Kai named pineapple. But she eat everything of it not only the sweet fleshy parts.
Stanley sometime looked a bit disgusting when fruit parts were spilled over the table for Zev could no longer stand her hunger.
“Looks like that...” he said eating some grapes.
“Don't ….” Zev swallowed “...don't we have some meat? I'd like to have some.” she growled.
“We could probably go for hunting tomorrow, if we are allowed to.” Kai said looking to Ceannaire.
“This will be your planet, Kai, a new home for you and your ancestors. If you want to hunt you just can do it.”
Kai lifted an eyebrow. “I do not think I have the right to own a planet.”
“It is no right. It is a gift. A gift from Alpha. A gift to you an all the others that will hopefully follow you. It it its only purpose.” she explained.
“Hey man, first dead, now alive and just owner of a planet!” Stan teased Kai. “Now I don't want to hear any jokes about me, Stanley Tweedle, Security Guard Class Four and owner of the Lexx and now Little Lexx!” he smiled and all of them had to laugh. Even Kai smiled and had a short laugh.
“By the way, what is this?” Zev pointed to the weird looking jars and plates while grabbing another fruit.
“These are jars and these are plates.” Stanley answered. “I made them while you where upstairs, sleeping, or whatever...”
“You made them?” she asked unbelievingly.
“Yes.” he said proudly.
“I should have realized it just out of their odd form, Im' sorry!” she grinned and bit a piece out of s fruit called apple.
Stanley got upset “Why don't you try, Zev. I am sure you will do it as good as you made our food in Prime Ridge!” he crossed his arms in front of him and Ceannaire watched both of them very carefully.
“Do not tease him this way, Zev. The dishes is useful and that is all it has to be.” Kai said after a few moments after watching both grimacing each other. She hanged her head in shame immediately and felt sorry. But the dishes really looked strange.
“Well, I do apologize, Stan. Kai is right. It is useful... and it somehow fits to us the way it looks.”
Stanley smiled again and felt a lot better for he had done something useful.
“You can try yourself, it is quite a fun in fact. And there is a smith for making tools. Some machinery is there also, maybe for bending and finer mechanics. But they do not work. I had no time to examine but maybe I can make some of them working again.”
“You can?” Ceannaire asked him.
“Probably, yes.” Stan wailed in the fresh gained attention “I can do some mechanical jobs. I once prepared a refrigerator for Kai to make it cooler.”
“He did.” Kai confirmed. “I would like to take a closer look to the machines as well.”
“You're welcome. I can show you, Ceannaire made a short but informative walk with me and I even saw the building where they stored the food in it. Mostly fruits and vegetables but also some grains. In this building there are big cooling chambers to keep them fresh. Behind this square there is a path to though the woods with more field on both sides and a little river, running from the lake into the woods. She said the path leads to the Memory Building.” Stanley explained. “But I don't wish to return to this place...”
Kai nodded and even Zev had the same opinion.
“We are sorry that you have those bad memories with this building. It really was a place of great knowledge, books and plans of history, technology, love and war. But they are lost to us. Maybe some do exist out in space but we cannot travel to find some. We cannot leave this place.”
“Well, maybe we could. We've got the Lexx. If you have any clues where to look I think we can make a journey.” Stan offered.
“Yes, that would be very kind of you. But we have no clues yet. Maybe we will get some hints out of some memories. We will talk to Alpha about this.” Ceannaire said with excitement in her voice. “By the way. Kai, would you kindly give us a description and name of the bio-vizier that made you? It would help Alpha to search for him and read in his memories. We need to find out either how your protoblood is produced or how we can re-carbonize your body.”
Kai nodded his head but he looked like he felt uncomfortable with it.
“The name was Brizon, Grand Bio-Vizier of the Divine Order. And he had a student called Mantrid. He, too, was involved in making Divine Assassins.” he stopped for a few seconds and his eyes looked lost for a single moment. “But Brizon was the one who made me a Divine Assassin.”
Kai came up with a more detailed description of Brizon and even told the story when they met him in the Light Zone after the destruction of the Gigashadow. He told her that he had a twisted mind as well and that they should be very careful for this man had been a trickster and a genius. Reading his memories seemed to be harmless but after all they had seen and learned, bio-viziers like Brizon and Mantrid were dangerous monsters. Maybe they are still after their deaths. Zev and Stan did confirm and Stanley added the story of reborn Mantrid in K-Town. Kai listened closely for he had no clear memories of that day but seemed a bit concerned about Mantrid remembering who he was and what he did.
Ceannaire listened very closely to their explanations and promised she would be careful and tell Alpha everything and she would made him aware of their evil minds. She also said that she would inform them immediately when she heard something from Alpha. She would leave then this night and go to the Memory Building for there was a room where they could contact Alpha. She would not return this night for they had to face and solve the problem as soon as possible. But she assured that they would be safe here and that she had shown Stanley all the buildings here on that square so they could get familiar with them and their interior.
“I will give you a communicator from the Lexx.” Stan said when she was about to leave. “We will go over to it and I'll get you one and we'll keep another here with us so you can contact us as soon as you've got news for us.” Stanley walked to the door.
“This sounds very good, Stanley.” Ceannaire admitted.
“I think in about two days the moth-breeders will have finished the first two moths. From that on it will be easier for all of us to travel and explore Arcadia.” Kai added.
“We will be looking forward to that. We have never seen a working Brunnen-G technology yet.”
“Well, it is no Brunnen-G technology, at least not in its origin.” Kai said. “As far as I know out of the memories from the Divine Shadow that killed me, he found my insect-like war-vessel very interesting for he was a survivor of the Insect Civilisation. He made his own studies out of the material from my vessel and grew the Lexx and other hybrid organic-mechanic things. The moths we use to travel in are his creation, not Brunnen-G.”
“But he had the thought coming up after he saw your vessel. We think we can still call it Brunnen-G technology.” she seemed to smile, at least her voice did sound like this. “The Brunnen-G had a lot of technology concerning biomechanical things. But they preferred to live mostly without and only used it in great danger or urgent need.”
“It is very interesting to hear so many things about my ancestors. My knowledge about them it very limited for my people had broken with the old knowledge and way of life hundreds of years ago. I could only learn out of some books and stories I sometimes heard. It was not allowed for Newborns like me to gain any wisdom about my ancestors. Even the older ones wanted their past to vanish.”
“A very strange behaviour, indeed.” Stanley said.
“You've met the Brunnen-G?” Ceannaire asked.
“Well, ehrm, no, we found a theatre travelling in space... we entered and found out that there were some Brunnen-G acting their stories of life again and again...”
“Kai joined them to tell his story...” Zev continued “...and so did I for I wanted to be a part of his story at least one time.”
“And that is how we became aware of the circumstances why the people of Brunnis 2 had been erased and how Kai was killed... and ...” he had to swallow “... was tortured by converting him into a Divine Assassin for his attempt to save his race and planet long before our time.”
“So it was.” Kai ended. Zev stretched out her hand underneath the table and laid it down on his leg for she saw he felt sad. He had not known his ancestors nor their stories and adventures for their descendants had broken with their legacy. Kai always wanted to know more what was beyond their somehow senseless lives and all he earned was repudiation by his own people and finally un-death by His Divine Shadow.
“I will tell you the story when we walk to the Lexx.” Stanley broke the silence and Ceannaire nodded her head and followed him outside into the night. The sun had gone down a while ago and the natural music of the night came from outside trough the opened windows. Thus they were strange and uncommon to most of them they gave them a feeling of being alive and home. They had a house, they had food and everything else to lead another life far away from all the dangers in the Dark Zone. They were the first people on this planet and it was a wonderful pure place. There was nothing very strange or weird on it – besides the Memory Building. The Lexx could eat and grow and Kai was alive.
She began stroking his leg for her hand was still resting there. She was slowly moving upwards while staring into his eyes. Kai looked down for a few seconds becoming aware what she was about to do. He drank the rest out of his jar, put it back onto the table and finally laid his hand onto hers just shortly before reaching her destined place.
“Where do you know Sandalwood from?” he asked her stopping her hand from moving further.
She shook her head and smiled irritated.
“It... it is your scent...” she answered shyly “... I could smell it on your side of the bed.”
“You cannot know this plant.” he said with a sombre tone in his voice.
“Well, I don't know it... I smelled it and it somehow came up my mind.” she admitted.
“It came up your mind...” he suddenly stood up.
“What... what is wrong with you?” Zev followed him to the pile of pillars in the other corner. She came closer to him but he did turn his back on her. She grabbed him with her arms and hugged him, breathing in his scent.
“There... Sandalwood again... how I missed it...” Kai got tensed up then finally turned around and grabbed Zev hardly, pushing her to the wall.
“That cannot be!” he almost shouted. “Who are you!” he pulled out his brace and pressed it against her throat.
“Don't … don't you remember me?” She said with a tear running down her eyes.
“I... I remember the only person that knows my scent is of Sandalwood.” he admitted with sorrow and somewhat like pain in his eyes “...but this one is dead!” She grabbed his brace.
“No, no I am not! I am here with you! I am here in her body! We have still some time left, Kai! I am Alegria.”
His eyes got sad and he closed them for a few seconds. “How...” was all he could bring over his lips.
“I got into her while she was sleeping. She was far away in a very interesting dream and I laid my spirit into her, dimming her own far away. I have full control over her – I am fully functional and I am all yours again!” she purred at him. He opened his eyes again and a single tear ran down his cheek.
“Oh please, don't...” she started to stroke his tear away, then caressing his face with her soft hands, fingered his neck. “Don't cry! I am here with you again and we have some time left!” she softly spoke to him removing his brace from her throat. She began kissing him passionately, stroking over his chest and moving further downward. Kai just stood there with again closed eyes. A lot of emotions seemed to wander over his face and his breath got more excited.
How could that be? How could she do this? It was not right. Even for her it was not right to take over Zev's body. Alegria. His former love. And the more passionate she got, the more she tried to arouse him, the more she got wild the more he realized how they had grown apart.
“Stop... stop it...” he tried to stop her from going any further but Alegria went on with all her passion in arousing him. She even growled like Zev would have done and became aware of the unnatural strength of her inhabited body while now turning Kai against the wall and pressing him against it.
“I will let you forget her, I promise...” she purred while moving her hand between his legs and giving him a memory of her qualities. He would soon forget about Zev for she was the only one that knew Kai. She knew what he liked, she knew what he wanted, she knew his dreams and aims. She was the only one that could satisfy him for she was a true Brunnen-G and like him a descendent of their ancestors. Their whole families where – pure bloodline of the ancient ones. He should not mix up his genes with an half inhuman woman like Zev. Maybe it was possible to cleanse her body with this Genetikum.
He suddenly grabbed her hand that tense that his knuckles went white. Kai realized that he still had got the power of a Divine Assassin and removed both of her hands from his body and then threw her onto the pile of pillows.
“Set her free!” he shouted at Alegria, his hands formed to fists, still standing at the wall but with tension. His eyes showed an upcoming fury Alegria had never seen in him before.
“You don't mean that, Kai. I know. I know everything of you.” She stood up onto her feet. “She doesn't know you or your dreams, she cannot love you like I do, she cannot satisfy you like I can, she just don't know who you are.” she started to move again towards him. “But I do.” she purred again. “Thus I must admit you have grown stronger...”
“Set her free.” he said again with a sombre tone in his voice.
“But Kai, it really is me, Alegria! Your one and only love, the one that led you out of prison, the one that was at your side when we faced the Foreshadow. The one that died for you.” A tear ran down her face. “The one that was lost to the Other Zone and finally was set free and also the one that brought you to this Alpha.”
She already was up to him staring in his angry eyes filling up with some tears. She began again stroking over his cheek and he closed his eyes for another moment but then breathed in deeply.
“The Kai you know died over 6000 years ago. And with him his heart stopped beating.” His voice was unknown monotone to her. There was so much pain in it she never heard such a tone in his voice and she took a step backward. “I was the last of the Brunnen-G, killed by His Divine Shadow, converted into his Divine Assassin killing in his name thousands of people, regardless of gender or age.” She stepped away a few more steps and shook her head.
“That can't be true! You never would have done such things!” She shouted at him.
“I did and I am still capable of doing them.” He pulled up his right sleeve and presented his brace to her. “Did I have this before?” he asked her “Or the other parts the Guiding ones removed out of my body which you must have noticed if you really had been complaining about my condition.”
She started to cry. “But you are my Kai! She has no right to possess you! I can give your soul a rest! I can help you come over all this! I can! I will do! I promise!”
Kai's eyes turned over to sadness.
“I know you would do. But I am no longer Kai, last of the Brunnen-G. I am no longer a Divine Assassin. I now am Kai, first of the Brunnen-G and I have chosen another live.”
“With her...” her face went sad.
“With her.” he confirmed.
She turned around and started to shiver. Kai came closer to her an finally took her into his arms.
“I thank you for guiding me to Alpha, Alegria.” he said with his soft and deep voice. “I thank you for guiding my friends to this place and I thank you for all the love you want to lay on me.” he continued while she was crying. “But as I said, my heart stopped beating a long time ago and I do not know how, but it was Zev that gave me a reason to reunite my spirit with my body.”
Alegria turned around.
“Promise me that you will never forget me, Kai!” she stroked over his cheek.
“I will never forget you...” he promised “And I will say goodbye to you for I never had the chance to do it...” and he gave her a kiss.
“As long as I am aware of myself, I will love only you...” she said with a vanishing voice and Zev's body started to tremble and shake. Her eyes rolled up and she suddenly fell backward into the pile of pillows before Kai could get her. Her body stopped trembling shortly after and he carefully took her into her arms. Zev moaned like if she had a headache but finally opened her eyes.
“What... what happened?” she looked around “Where are we?”
“We are downstairs lying in a pile of pillows.” Kai answered.
Zev sat up looking around. In her dreams she started her fantasy dream right here ending up in a wild sextasy with him. No rules, no limits but wild, hard and passionate love. She blushed immediately. Why were they here? Had she spoken in her dreams? Had he any clue of her dream? Oh this really would be disgracing.
“How did we get here?” She finally asked trying avoid his glimpse.
“It will take some time to explain...” he said a bit confused and with some sorrow in his voice but he offered her to sit between his legs, leaning her onto him. She did not need another invitation and with her dream slowly vanishing she listened to what had happened to her. Kai did tell her everything and Zev finally did not know what she should think about that. She was shocked to hear she had been inhabited by Alegria without any clue to that. But on the other hand she felt proud that he had chosen her though he was face to face with his former love. She blushed a bit and nestled closer to him. He apologized for throwing her across the room but she just started to growl a bit for she liked this slight brutish side of him. She could not remember anything of this but she still noticed the tension in his whole body.
“No need to apologize, Kai.” she answered. “Just hold me like that the rest of the night...” she sighed breathing in his scent, feeling save now and unspeakable happy. Kai had chosen her after all, a dream had come true she never had thought of after having grown up in a box. And she felt proud of she had given him a reason to live again. She did it, she, Zev Bellringer of B3K.
And after all they both finally ended up in that pile of pillows sleeping belly to back. He still held her in her arms and they even did not notice when Stanley returned. He shortly looked after them, pulled one of the blankets over them and then went to the other bedroom and fell asleep shortly after.
“Well this did not end like it should have.” he admitted.
“It did not!” She said very frustrated. “He denied me. If I only had my body back! If I only could face him with 'all' of me – he would not spend a thought on that Zev any more.”
“I stick do my deals and as I told you, there is another way to get what you want, but it is the harder way.” he answered.
“Yes, I know. But what choice do I have?”
“None, I guess. Not if you will stick to our deal. You will, won't you?”
“You can have that girl. I am not interested in her. As you say, it would have been useful to create a body of her and Kai's genetic material to get my own one but I failed. Yet.”
“And now we will try our other plan, will we?”
“We will. I will ask Alpha to be granted being the spirit of Arcadia for I can give it the Brunnen-G signature and for this my ancestors could probably find their way back.”
“...and as a spirit of a planet I have control over the planet and when I grow strong enough I could manifest in different things and get Kai back.”
“Good girl.” he gazed at the blue star. “I am glad I found you.”
“I am glad we made this deal for it will give to both of us what we want most: I will get Kai and you will get Zev.”
He smiled and the blue star pulsed for a few moments.
“We have prepared your tent, master Prince.” Priest said and presented a more than unprofessional little camp they had built of parts of the Nova. Bunny had some strange types of decoration arranged on the shelters but he could live with that. They had been the only survivors after the Noah had drifted in space and finally found the blue star. In fact it was prince that became aware of that unnatural sorrow in deep space and shortly after he found Alegria. And they made a deal. And it was about to become a good one.

|It's nice that Stanley takes care of them. But now Kai's old love had made a deal with Prince, that doesn't bode well.

|Long time -- but here we go on again
She felt someone softly stroking trough her hair. She had a dreamless sleep this time, possibly she was exhausted by the infiltration of Alegria. She had listened to Kai's explanations, she first had felt very uncomfortable and abused in a way but after she heard that he ordered Alegria to set Zev free she got very happy. It was a moment when every burden she had carried had been lifted off her shoulders. If only she could remember him saying all these things!
“Are you awake?” Kai's voice was very soft and Zev nestled a bit closer to him. They were still lying belly to back and he still held her in his strong arms. She started to purr a bit in her Cluster Lizard way and pressed her body closer.
“If this is a dream don't let it stop...” she whispered and he answered with kissing her neck. She immediately was aroused and started to growl and wailed herself in his strong embrace. He again stroked through her hair and then went further downward softly caressing her side. She turned around a bit so she was half lying on her back and stared into his eyes. Hers were full of lust and his looked wild. And then there was his wonderful scent again and Zev took a deep breath.
His hand was laying on her belly. It felt warm and strong. They were a bit rough but what did she expect from a former Divine Assassin? She closed her eyes again when Kai started to kiss her again, this time onto her lips. She answered him with vehement passion, using her tongue for a more longing kiss and he tossed her nearer towards him. Zev moaned immediately and plead again for this dream not to end. She could not see what he was doing underneath the blanket but she could 'feel' it. His hand was adventuring her body starting belly-upwards and ending up at her breasts and she was about to get nuts.
She grabbed his bun, tossed some hairs out of it and her Lizard growl got stronger. Her body was very tensed and longing and he had to be careful not letting her take over leadership in this story. Her hands were searching for to open his top clothing and he let her doing this. He helped her getting rid of it and found him in a passionate and slight brutish caress shortly after. She had pinned him on the floor deep between the pillows and first kissed him and then let her lips find her way downward over his neck and onto to his chest. She looked up to him with very wild eyes and realized his breath had grown faster.
“That … was not what I intended to ...” he tried to speak but Zev stopped him by kissing him again. Very dexterous she got rid of her upper clothing within no second and pressed her body against his. She grabbed again into his bun and another strand got loose. She liked his raven black hair in disorder. She felt the warmth of her body and she loved feeling his body now being warm, too. She wailed in this feelings for a few moments what gave Kai the chance to take over leadership again. Still being very strong he turned her onto her back easily and she opened her eyes abrupt staring into his eyes. They looked excited as well but there was something in it that made her hesitating in continuing her vehement game of passion.
“.. is … something wrong..?” she finally found her voice.
He smiled and his breath had calmed down but he was still very delicate to watch, kneeling over her, holding her hands to the ground, is hair in disorder and his body tensed.
“No, everything is okay.” he said with his deep voice and she could bet he still was aroused. Oh if she just could get one hand free she would find out if he really was and if not she would make him! She would – right here, right now.
“I just think this is not the right place for this...” he smiled. Damn the place! Zev tried to get rid of his pin but he really was strong. Stronger than he looked like. In fact he was very skinny but you could see his muscles. He was very athletic but this unnatural strength must have come with him being converted into a Divine Assassin.
“I don't mind this place, Kai, please!” She wailed underneath him, she vehemently tried to press her chest against his but he was heavy as well. She got a bit angry.
“Stop teasing me!” she shouted with a Lizard growl in it and Kai smiled. That damn living guy just knelt over her, pinned her to the ground. His loose hair ran over his shoulders and he was just waiting there. She tried to escape once again from his pin and it seemed he released her a bit. She gave in to her first impulse, got one hand free and grabbed him between the legs. He moaned up for had not expected that and she sighed for he really was fully 'functional again. Kai had closed his eyes for a few moments to deal with his feelings and Zev loosened her hold a bit and started to explore the contours underneath his trousers.
She just wanted to start her personal game as they could hear footsteps from outside. Zev just managed to get a blanked over her almost naked body and then the door was opened. Kai slowly came back to consciousness and wondered why he had not heard the footsteps earlier but while he still not was in full control of his mind, Stanley stepped in with a basket full of fresh fruits.
“Zev! Kai! I've got something for breakfast...” Stanley lost any words and thought when he saw a sparsely covered Zev lying under a topless Kai who's hair was in complete disorder.
“Oh guys! Come on!” he turned around with some sort of disgust in his voice “Don't you have a bed for this?”
“Stanley!” Zev shouted at him “How can you!” She threw a pillow at him and he almost lost the basket.
“How can you?!” he questioned back. “It is hard for me to get around things anyway, but this...” he placed the basket on the table and could not resist to gave Zev a short glance when she was putting her upper dress on. Kai finally managed it, too, and luckily Stanley had not to see them both completely naked. Well, in fact he had seen both of them naked due to some incidents. A naked Zev would have been a very nice morning welcome but a naked Kai? He shook is head. Luckily he did not come any second later. Only god would know what he had seen then.
While dressing up, Kai whispered something like “I did tell you...” and Zev looked shyly away on the floor.
“Hey, if you guys are ready then, we could finally have some breakfast!” he said with a blaming tone. “And there is a lot more to do! We will have to watch for the wheat field and the other vegetables, Little Lexx needs some food, and Kai, you wanted to see the machines.”
“Yes Stanley.” Kai admitted. He had a look on his face that expressed some sort of indisposition. Maybe he felt something like ashamed for they had offended Stan by being this tactless. He went to the kitchen and filled up the jug with water for their jars. He then managed to order his hair a bit more for he felt he was looking like just have being messed up.
Stanley was already eating some fruits.
“I'm sorry, Stan.” Zev said “I just could not stand it...” she said while sitting down. She avoided to to look at Kai for she really felt sorry Stanley almost had to see Zev on a sexual rampage. It must be hard for him now that Kai was alive and capable of pleasing her. That had Stanley put out of stage. Well, he never really was on it but now he never would be. And no other women was here on this planet. At least no normal one. If Ceannaire really was a woman they did not now.
“Yeah...” Stanley said not looking into their eyes either. “I know what this all means to you … but just … go something private for this, okay?” he took a big sip out of his jar and had finally a smile again on his face.
“Will you go for hunting today?” he asked Kai.
“I you want me to hunt, I will go.”
“Hm... some meat sounds really delicious to me!” Zev confirmed.
“You could go and I will take Zev for a walk around. I think it won't take you long, as far as I know you, and after that we could get a closer look to the machines. And Zev could make another try to cook.”
“I will hunt enough for she can try.” Kai said unaware he just did confirm that Zev possibly would mess up their food and Stanley ended up laughing while Zev stared at Kai with angry eyes. He bit off another peace of his apple and was wondering what the both were about and then suddenly became aware how Zev must have understood this.
“I do apologize. I did not intend to annoy you...”
“You are not intending to do anything today...” she growled back at him and grabbed another pineapple and bit off the green top of it chewing it with some animality.
“You really bungled it, pal...” Stanley smiled “...never imagined you could...” he simply had to tease Kai at least a bit. Kai sighed. This situation was very delicate by now and he could not think of anything to calm her down. He now remembered this part of a relationship to a woman and Zev had been longing for him for over 4000 years. It was really confusing for him. He just got back his feelings, he loved this woman very much and wanted to satisfy her but he was not really home yet. He did not feel complete yet. Maybe it was because his spirit was realizing that his body was still de-carbonized or maybe that 7-day thing came true for him. Or he still was thinking about Alegria. He really was concerned about her vehement and somehow violent manner she just had shown. He was wondering how she found out she could infiltrate a body. The Brunnen-G never had thought of something like that, neither he had heard of something like this. He got the indefinite intuition of being part of a puzzle.
The woods were very big an looked like they were very old. He had no idea how old this planet was but the trees did show a very long life. Especially the oaks had grown strong and big, plenty of branches and full of leaves. Kai considered it to be a summer-like season for the green was deep and he could see them growing seeds like acorns, pine cones, bucketeers and many more. He could not remember such big and old woods on Brunnis 2, neither such a rich nature.
He realized soon that his mind got lost several times when examining different trees and flowers. Some of them were familiar to him from books he had read or pictures shown by elder ones but most of them still were unknown. He really wanted to learn more about this nature. Then a noise came up to his ears, very far away, but his Assassin' skills still were functional. Maybe that was a sign of some deer or a sounder of wild hogs. Definitely something alive and worth for taking a closer look at.
Kai started walking towards that noise then started running and finally sprinting. He dodged trees and bushes easily, his moves were of a cat's grace and he liked the feeling of his lungs filling with the fresh and wet air of the woods. The cold breath ran down his throat, filled his lungs and was turned into warmth by his pulsing blood. He felt his heart beating up and he liked feeling his unnatural strength for the first time. He still was in parts a Divine Assassin, he could sense it, but now he could give this doom a different meaning. He was alive now and capable of using all the advantages that his conversion had given him. Now he had not only his own will, Kai was aware of being a warrior for the first time in his life. And by thinking of this his blood rushed into his head and the sounding name of “Brunnen-G” came into his mind and his heart was beating even stronger now. He carried the legacy of his ancestors, that's what he was sure about now.
The deer could not realize what was hunting it. Just as it became aware that something was tracking it, the whirring noise of Kai's brace broke the silence and killed the deer at once. Painless, fast and almost silent. Its head was lying some steps besides its body and Kai was satisfied with this success. The brace really was a good weapon for he just had to think about what he was going to do and it “followed” his will. The Guiding Ones had been right when they said, every Brunnen-G had his own weapon and that it was part of their soul. Kai could not think of any other weapon for he had mastered this one for now 6000 years.
Another fast running sound of ground-hidding hoofs came up to his ears and he was immediately up for his second chance to hunt. This time he moved a lot more silently through the undergrowth for his body had now adapted to this former unknown hunting place. He had not to seek very long for he knew a deer normally was not not alone and he soon found the rest of the herd. It took him only seconds to spot out another deer for hunting. The rest of the herd hurried away in agony shortly after Kai killed the second deer with another head-shot. He let them escape but watched them for a while. He tried to find out a bit more of their behaviour for all that he knew was some knowledge out of books and vague pictures. He never had a chance to watch those animals in their natural environment, see them communicating with each other, hear their sounds, smell their scent or watching them browse.
He stood there for quite a while before he returned to his duty. He took the first deer which was bigger than him easily up on his shoulder and walked back to the first one that he had left behind on a clearing in the woods. He felt his heart calming down and so his blood. He felt good for he knew they all would have something to eat now and he was thankful to find so many food on Arcadia. He clearly remembered their time drifting through the Dark Zone without any food. Well, he had not needed any food but now he could feel his hunger again and he knew how Stan and Zev must have felt during that time. Everything seemed to turn out all-right for them all by now. Hopefully.
Kai looked into the afternoon sky for he became aware a change out there. He just saw how that tiny pulsing star, Alegria, was merging with Alpha or something like that. Alpha started pulsing for some moments and then it looked like a shooting star was falling from the sky... and it dropped down on … Arcadia! A sound of thunder could be heard very loudly and immediately a change of weather came. It started to rain within no seconds.
Kai did not mind the rain but he was concerned about what he just had seen. He took both deer on his shoulders and started to jog homeward. He could have run home but he still was aware of the fact that his Protoblood was almost at its limit. He needed to stay “functional” for now something strange had happened. And he blamed himself for not having taken a communicator with him. He still thought like the Assassin he was, Kai was not in danger but he could not say that for the other ones.
The rain turned over into a heavy thunderstorm and within no minute Kai was wet to his bones. His bun was getting more and more loose the more heavier it got with all the rain in it. The ground was starting to get muddy and he had to watch his step more closely by now for he did not want to fall onto the ground with the deer. Thunder and lightening gave a strange duet and followed him through the woods. He had to slow down a bit for the ground got more and more unsafe. Small trickles of water crossed his path and he realized that it got colder. He could see his breath. This was very strange. The sight even got more worse for the rain came down like the Flood and he even had to stop now.
Kai knew in which direction he had to go but it was almost impossible to move on. He sank into the ground more and more. He had to find a shelter at least for a while. He headed towards a big and old oak for he saw a big hole in its clade. He shortly looked inside to get sure no other animal was waiting for him there. Then he threw the deer up on a thick branch of the oak for he would not lay them down into the mud. He later could get them down with his brace and they were save for any other carnivores that might be around here.
The oak gave him shelter and he soon had made a small trench to keep the water off running into it. He released his bun and began to wring out his hair. His clothes all were wet and dripping of rain. Even his boots now surrendered Nature's caprices. He felt a bit cold an thought about his possibilities. A fire would be a fine idea but there was nothing dry enough within an hour from here. He just would have to wait for a while and then return home. He hoped Zev and Stan were all well.

|And another part
“Man! This is nuts!” Stanley said while staring outside the window of the pottery. Zev and he had been making a lot more dished like plated, bowls, pots, jars an jugs the whole morning since Kai had left them. It was hours ago since he left them. Zev was preparing another piece of clay that was obviously not to become a dish but a male sex organ when they both shrugged up as the first thunder broke the silence. Within no time the rain had turned into a thunderstorm and now they were captured in the pottery for the rain was to heavy to get home dry.
“I had no idea that nature could produce so much water in no time for such a long time!” Stanley said while watching the fast growing trickles flowing over the square towards the lake.
“I hope Lexx is fine...” he said more to himself.
“I hope that Kai is fine...” Zev answered now standing besides Stanley watching the running wild nature outside.
“He is. Kai has mastered a lot of difficult situations, so why should he get in trouble with a change of weather?” Stanley tried to convince her.
“...because he cannot float...” she said lost in her thoughts.
Stanley wanted to say something but could not find any right words. He looked around and saw the enormous male sex organ Zev had modelled out of the clay and lifted an eyebrow. She really must be undersexed!
“Well, let's talk to Ceannaire! Maybe she can tell if this is normal?” he fetched his communicator.
“Ceannaire? Do you hear me?” he almost yelled into it. For a few moment there was silence but then they could hear her voice. But the connection was not very stable.
“Are you all-right there?” Stan asked
“We are fine.”
“Is this usual for Arcadia?”
“If you mean the weather, we must admit, no.”
“How long will this last?” Zev asked.
“We have ...” statics in the line “... no idea....” the connection got more and more bad “...very strange...” “...lost contact to Alpha....” silence.
“Doesn't sound well.” Stan said. “Maybe we should take the Lexx and have a look for both of them. Ceannaire and Kai.”
“Do you think we can fly in that weather?”
“I don't know but standing around here while hearing this weather is not normal, makes me feeling uncomfortable.”
“I know what you mean. Let's try to get Little Lexx over here and then find Kai and then get Ceannaire.”
Stan nodded and pulled a switch on the communicator.
“Lexx? Can you hear me?”
“Yes, I can hear you Stan.”
“Are you all-right?”
“I am all-right. I had a lot to drink by now and some good food was in it as well.”
“Well that's good to hear. Can you land somewhere closer to the square so we can enter and have a flight?”
“I can try.”
They heard some trembling sounds nearby through the thunder and they finally could see the Lexx landing right in front of the square. The grass there already had turned into a mud-field and Little Lexx pushed a small amount of mud onto the square while it was landing.
“Okay then, I guess now it is our turn.”
“Here, we could use those pots to hold over out heads!” Zev said while offering Stanley a pot.
“This looks ridiculous. I have got my hat, Zev.”
“I don't want to get struck by lightening!” and she held the pot over her head and opened the door. It was cold outside. A lot colder than before. No good weather or temperature for a Cluster Lizard and she started running towards the Lexx.
Stan took a step outside as another very loud thunder crashed the silence and he stepped inside again as fast as he could.
“Wait...!” he cried “...ah, wait, Zev!” he was waving and looking for his pot. “Oh damn! This was too good to be true!” he pulled the pot over his head. “Zev!” and he ran outdoors and straight towards the Lexx.
They entered Little Lexx quickly through its mouth. The pots had prevented them from their heads drowning in water. Even a lightening crashed into a tree near the end of the square where Little Lexx had landed.
“Lexx!” Stanley gave the order “... take off and search for Kai in the nearby woods!”
Zev was away to the shower to get some towels for them and her beloved one. If they were wet like this within no minute, what would it be with him? She really was a bit worried for there was no sign either of him nor that this rain would end soon. The sky was darkened by clouds and the heavy rain. Only the lightening gave a strange kind of enlightening to Arcadia.
A tremor went through Little Lexx while taking off and suddenly the winds blew up with no mercy and it was a more than uncomfortable ride. Little Lexx had a lot of difficulties to fly into the direction Stanley wanted. It somehow seemed as the closer they wanted to get to Kai the more nature stood against them.
“I can't see anything out there...” Little Lexx said while trying to keep course.
“He must be around here somewhere!” Zev said staring at the screen. But the rain was too heavy. They were stuck in clouds and fog that was crawling up from the woods for it was cooling down so rapidly. They could only see the tips of the great trees but nothing beyond.
“Can't you localize him somehow, Lexx?”
“I can't see anything out there. Neither with my normal sight, neither with infra-red for everything outside almost has got the same temperature by now. I am sorry, Stan.”
And then a big lightening stroke into Little Lexx.
“Ouch!!!” and it started to stagger around and almost came down that close to the ground that they could hear a big tree breaking. A few seconds later they could smell something like burned flesh.
“Lexx! What happened?” Stanley asked with upcoming fear for their ride now was even more uncomfortable.
“My tail is aching...” it said with a slightly wailing sound.
Zev stared at Stan.
“That doesn't sound good, Stan!”
“... it is hurting....” Lexx repeated “I want to land.”
“We cannot land here, Lexx!” Stanley shouted.
“We must find Kai!” Zev added.
“I want to land!” Lexx answered.
Stan and Zev looked at each other knowing they would not get any further now. Lexx seemed to have a severe damage and as it said, they were not able to locate Kai anyway. They had to turn around and try to get to Ceannaire.
“... we can come back later, when we know what damage Lexx has taken. But loosing it now would be more worse for all of us.” Stanley said to Zev and she nodded her head but the sadness in her eyes spoke for another thought.
“... let's get back and find Ceannaire...”
“He will be fine.” Stanley added and gave the command to leave this place and head towards the Memory Building where he hoped to find Ceannaire.
Little Lexx turned around and again it seemed like the weather was changing. Little Lexx could now make her way easier back again.
“We have company...” it said after a few moments.
“We have company?” Stan asked and the screen now showed the scenery underneath Little Lexx and finally they could see a fine line connected to Lexx' tail and some seconds after a black figure seemed to get drawn nearer to Little Lexx.
“It's Kai!” Zev shouted and then started to run into the gallery.
“For God's sake!...” Stanley sighed and felt a great relief.
“Are you all right, Kai?” Zev almost ran into him out of her excitement.
“I am wet to my bones and I must admit it is a bit cold now but I am all right.” he answered. His raven hair was dripping of rain, his bun almost gone completely and his clothes were wet as if he just had stepped off a pool. And he had two dead animals with him. Zev had not seen such animals before.
“What are they?” she asked curiously.
“My ancestors called them 'deer'.” he answered.
“We have got towels on the bridge for you to dry yourself.” she smiled at him. “Or you could take a warm shower with me and I'll dry you up then.”
Kai smiled back and shouldered both deer within no minute. “A warm shower... sounds good.” he said while starting to walk after her. It would take them some time to get to the bridge again. Though Little Lexx was not as big as the old one yet, its dimensions were roomily.
Kai stooped some seconds later and looked into a section of Lexx' driving systems.
“That does not look well...” he said while laying down the deer. Zev immediately came back and followed Kai into this section. The lightening really had done a severe damage to Lexx. There was big hole in the side of its tail close to the major driving components. The cold air rushed through the interior and the smell of burnt flesh was all over. Even the rain was dripping inside and the hallway was slippery.
It took Kai some moments to check if the Lexx still was able to fly and they informed Stanley via the communication systems on board about Lexx' status. Some machine parts needed repair for they had suffered of the high voltage and the water on board and the wound inflicted by the lightening needed some attendance as well.
“Yeah you guys better come up here and we'll catch up Ceannaire and return to the moon until this weather changes!” Stanley answered. “I don't want to stay here any minute longer.!”
They turned around to return to the bridge but some monotone wailing sounds came close to Kai's ears and he started to search for their source. He found a heavily damaged 790, obviously directly strucked by the lightening.
“You never mentioned he is still with you.” Kai said while lifting him up.
“How could we for it was him that destroyed earth and that gave the rest to Old Lexx!” Zev was angry “We were doomed to die in space in our moths but luckily Little Lexx was born. Anyhow, he killed Earth, he wanted to kill us for being with you all alone! He isn't trustworthy any more!”
“I think he is not in the condition to do that again.” Kai answered while examining the robot head.
“Please, leave him behind...” Zev begged.
Kai looked at her. He could understand why she was upset but he also saw the capabilities of 790. If the machinery of Little Lexx had taken severe damage than they would not know how to repair it. 790 would be a great help. And he could possibly help to make the machines running on Arcadia.
“He could be helpful for none of us is an expert in repairing such kind of technologies.” he said with his calm voice. He always was weighing up things. And he was right on this point but Zev still thought the danger that 790 could bring to all of them was too big.
“He will try to kill us again when his functions are restored.”
“Then we should try to keep him just as functional as we want him.” Kai answered.
“If you can do that?”
“I do not know.” He looked again at the damaged head “But we can have a try.” He gave the head to Zev and she took him with disgust. Kai had to carry the deer so she had to take 790. If any other person had suggested this plan she would have denied this more violently but for Kai the rules were different. She knew he would not let it happen again that 790 ran wild again but things had changed even for Kai now. He could get hurt, too.
“I will terminate him if anything goes wrong.” he promised and Zev sighed but smiled.
“You should have left him, where he was!” Stanley said angrily.
“I promised to terminate him if he becomes a threat again.” Kai answered.
“Yeah... if it's not too late...” he muttered.
Kai laid down 790 onto the floor.
“The Lexx has got some severe damage and 790 could help for none of us is able to repair it.” he stated.
“First we need to get Ceannaire and then get out of here until this weather calms down. This is so crazy!” Stanley said staring to the screen hoping to make out the Memory Building. The rain was getting heavier again and the winds blew up as well. Thunder and Lightening gave their strange duet within few seconds.
“Can this be natural?” Zev asked leaning onto Kai's side.
“I do not think so.” she looked at him.
“I am afraid that something happened to Arcadia.”
“Why this?” she asked.
“I am not sure but I saw something very strange.”
“Welcome to the Dark Zone...” Stanley muttered again.
“What did you see?”
“I cannot say exactly but it looked like Alegria went into Alpha and then something was shut onto Aracdia's surface. It looked a lot like a shooting star. And shortly after that this change in weather happened.”
“You mean Alegria is down on Arcadia?”
“But she is dead!” Stanley said. “She has no body to come back, if Ceannaire is not wrong!”
“I do not think, Ceannaire is wrong.” Kai answered
“Oh man, I don't get it.” Stanley slouched his shoulders.
“I cannot explain it but it seems to me that, somehow, maybe her spirit was sent down to Arcadia...” Kai started “... or what seems more likely, she was sent into Arcadia.”
“Into?” Zev asked very surprised. “How can a spirit be sent into a planet.”
“I do not know, but we have seen a similar situation before.”
“You .. think of Prince, don't ya?” Stanley asked obviously feeling uncomfortable with it.
Kai simply nodded his head again.
“So, you think that we're facing the same problems again?”
“This might be. But I cannot say what this means for us.” Kai said.
“Yeah, Prince was good with pain and he was a trickster. I think having Alegria around doesn't course this kind of trouble!” Stanley thought.
“Not the same kind. But she is very different from the woman I once knew.” Kai answered looking to Zev. Things had changed a lot.
