Why did you start watching Lexx and after all this time why do you still have a passion for it or interest in it?

I first saw Lexx advertised in late 1999 on the American sci fi channel and thought it looked so weird and quirky that it would be right up my alley.  I love quirky shows and this one just blew me away.  It was funny, humorous and unlike any other sci fi I had seen before.  Many people are aware that sci fi ran only what they called the 'sexy' episodes first with Xev and showed 4 of the same eps 3 times in a row.  Not much to convince people to stick with it the way sci fi ran the eps unless it captured you from the very start, as it did with me.   I continued to watch the rest of season two, then sci fi finally aired the 4 movies in August of 2000, and that really filled in alot of the gaps for me.  I started looking up Lexx on the internet in July of 2000 and always saw scifi.com/lexx advertised after the show, so I checked out the bulletin board there and joined, and the rest is history.  I've been into Lexx for almost 7 years now.  I love the show and think the actors brought such a unique talent to each of their roles.  I still love it to this day for his uniqueness and flaunting of the conventional, it was a very unconventional show.  Smart, quirky, fun, sexy, dark, outrageous, you name it, Lexx had it.

A big thank you to Paul Donovan for his creation, Brian Downey, Michael McManus, Eva Habermann, Xenia Seeberg, Jeff Hirschfield, Lex Gigeroff, Patricia Zentilli, Ellen Dubin, Nigel Bennett and Rolf Kanies, you all brought so much of yourselves and your talent to that show each week and made it into something brilliant.

I guess you know why I started watching Lexx: Prince! It took me nearly 4 years before I bought the DVDs.
1999 Nigel told me that he would soon be in Germany because he would do some filming there. He told me a bit about Lexx. Of course I had heard about that show before and saw bits of it on German TV, but I didn't really like it. So I said to him something like "Well, okay, have fun..."
Stupid, I know ;-)

I like Lexx because so many of the seemingly ridiculous situations that the crew get involved in, are repeated in my RL experiences! Especially at work :D

Me, too.  :bounce_pinka:  I was a crossover fan from Forever Knight.  I had sorta watched a couple of eps without paying much attention because I had cable when Lexx first premiered and for some strange reason the cable company had advertised Kai as a 'space vampire kept alive by special blood.'  Isn't that strange and weird?  I sort of watched an ep or too, falling asleep because from what I could tell, the good-looking dead guy was NEVER gonna bite anybody, so what was the point?

When Nigel, or Uncle for those of you who are into FK fandom, showed up, I remember expecting him to burst into flames any instant, but I kept on watching to see what he would do.  He was of course consummately evil, and I had no freaking idea whatinthehell was going on.  It was like Unkie from the first season of FK, so he was fun enuff that I kept on watching.

Finally Scifi started showing the films, and everything started to make sense.  When I saw the beautiful alive Kai...about to die in the first five minutes of the series, and I was hooked!  NOOOO, he's too beautiful and heroic to die!  :089:  Then he came back, dead, deadly, dressed in black, and more gorgeous than ever!  :iloveyou:

Thus, I became a fan. :smiley_880:

I think the character of Kai should have been listed in the TVGuide's best 50 Scifi Characters.   :147: That he was left out is heinous in the extreme.  :smiley_710:   He was an incredible invention and ever fascinating to me.

sniff
sniff  I miss all those flawed characters.  There was nothing like them in scifi, that's fer shure.

                                         :heartblood:

Forgot to say that I still have an interest because I still find things in Lexx that escaped me the first ten or fifteen times around.  This surprises me.  I was really about to abandon Lexx last week, thinking that I had gotten everything from it possible to get, when I was watching Supernova again, and I got another perspective slammed into my head.

What a surprise that was for me.   :bounce_pinka:  It was nice, because I was really about to give it up forever.  I'm so glad I gave it another chance.  Lexx gave me another chance.  :emot140:

For the madness of it, for the extra high WTF factor, great actors, great story and for the sheer cleverness underneath the refreshingly insane surface.

Then there's Kai, of course - it would be foolish to try and deny the impact of his on-screen presence on my viewing experience.

The first couple of times I caught LEXX on TV, I thought "this show is all about sex", then after awhile I got it, and realized "this show is about sexual frustration". After that I was hooked. :P:dude:

I also like the way Lexx 'recycled' so many of their main and sub characters into new characters or just a different side of one more complex character. Along with the fact that you never knew what the show was up to next. How many series actually have a musical ep! There is just so much to love about the show. Not to mention the anti-heroes.

Oh me too, Cheshire.  I liked how they reused the characters and changed them around a bit, but didn't totally take away from their true nature.

One thing that really drew me to season two was the fact that you didn't know what was going to happen next.  Each episode (with the exclusion of the Web and the Net), you didn't really know what was going to happen, they were unconventional, sometimes to the extreme and rarely politically correct.  It had so much weirdness, that it just kept you fascinated to see what was going to happen in the next installment.  Season three was more of a Prince story arc and was visually brilliant, that's what I liked about that season.  And season four tended to drag on storylines at times and had some filler eps, that it wasn't my fave season, but it still had some good episodes that drew you in.  What captivated me about Lexx was that the crew was so exploratory and encountered new planets and people, and not rubber-faced aliens, as the beans set that rule in their bible, and I'm glad they didn't do that, because then to me it'd be just like any other sci fi show out there.  I think that is what was part of the magic of Lexx.

Who needed rubber faced aliens when you had characters like Mort, Dr Longborer, and the Prime Ridge crew.:c030a:

Exactly!  And Dieter Laser was perfect for the role of Mantrid, he played a creepy, meglomaniac character to the hilt.  Even watching him in season three sent chills up my spine, he was a definite master of his role.

Agreed!  Weird and different has always worked for me.  Never knowing what was going to happen next, kept me watching!!  Recycling characters was only one of many things they did to keep us wondering WTF.  I saw the show for the first time, also on American Sci-Fi channel ,  But I mustn't have been paying attention, Because I saw the Movies 1'st,  (Maybe they showed them in different orders in different regions) but I only got to see 3 movies not all 4.  Then they started playing the series, and it WAS in Random order but I still kept watching, Maybe I'm just Weird, I absolutely HATE musical episodes, but they pulled it off and it was actually GOOD, I even saved it on VCR, (Gone now) Finally bought the DVD's, {Thank You, Noclockthing} and as soon as I take vacation I intend to veg in front of the screen and watch the whole thing the way it was meant to be!!!
