I'm just re-reading Keeper of the King, the first novel written by Nigel Bennett and P.N. Elrod. It's exciting and hot! And I will again listen to the audio book afterwards (read by Nigel himself)...

Just cracked open God Emperor of Dune (and here I said I was going to steer clear of the heady stuff for a while).
After a couple false starts I finally resolved to read the series (Frank Herbert's six, leastaways) last year. So I plowed through the first three books, took some much needed time off, and finally decided to jump back in the mix.

I just finished a really fascinating book "Kabul Beauty School" by Debbie Rodriguez. I read it in about 2 days because it was just tooo interesting to put down. It's about a beautician from the US who went to Afghanistan with a missionary group. She found that one of the best careers for women in Afghanistan is as a beautician, since men are not allowed in the salons and therefore have no say in the business. I found this news story about Debbie & the beauty school.

I bought Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows at 12.05 am BST today & managed to both sleep a bit & finish it by 12.45 pm. So, it' s really all over... no more books..

No more revelations, save to say that I have enjoyed it all enormously & think it's been really helpful in encouraging our notoriously illiterate youth to read, even if it is a bit middle class.

Yeah I finished my copy today, I bought it last night at 12:01 and actually got some sleep in between chapters. I'm not going to reveal the ending but alot of folks were disappointed in the way the book wrapped up. Oh well. I can still go back are re-read the older ones.

There was so much anticipation built up around the last book, it may have been difficult not to be disappointed with almost any ending. After all the old saying goes 'you can't please all of the people all of the time'

Just started re-reading Watchmen. Not the greatest comic book ever written, as so many Alan Moore fans contend, but it's DAMN close, and fully deserving of its accolades.

Just got thru reading Gregory Maguire's 'Wicked', which spawned the Broadway play, and I'm currently starting 'Son of the Witch', which is the sequel. VERY interesting style of writing, and it will give you a whole new appreciation for the Wicked Witch of the West and make you hate Dorothy's guts...

If the play 'The Wicked' ever comes to town, you should go see it Maya. My niece and sister did and they said it was fabulous!

A collection of Russian sci-fi short stories. Very good.
