Has anyone watched this? Really, really good show. It's about a vampire, a werewolf, and a ghost all living together and trying to fit in with humans. The story lines are interesting and the actors really talented.

I think the actor who plays George the werewolf would have landed the role on his ability to shriek, alone. And the vampire Mitchell... oh Mitchell. A nice enough looking bloke, but when he vamps out... hello! He gives good fang. And Annie the ghost girl is jut the cutest thing ever. She makes tea. Lots and lots of tea. (That's funnier than it sounds)

The ending of the first season had one of the most poignant moments I think I've ever seen on TV, along with one of the greatest lines ever. George says, mid-transformation with claws, inhuman eyes, and a mouth full of fangs, "Humanity is about love and sacrifice. This doesn't rob me of my humanity; it proves it."  Gave me shivers. Highly recommended show. There is a remake of this in the works in the U.S. *sigh* Why do they keep doing that?

I'm a huge Being Human fan! The third series starts next month here in the UK. One of the all time best scenes, which you can see on YT is when they have a "house meeting" it's worth watching!

Funny, gory, a bit scary and sometimes very sexually explicit.
I highly recommend!

What is really disgusting is that the US is coming out with their own version of this show and they even copy the look of the girl ghost, right down to her sweaters. What's the point? Anyone who wants to see this show should watch the UK original. It's so much better. Just look what happened when they tried to copy 'Top Gear' for the US. Lame, lame, lame. Only the Fab 3 can pull off that show.

Same goes for Red Dwarf when they tried to re-create that. It was awful.

As a Brit, I do find it slightly insulting that the US have to remake these great British shows, rather than just show them.

They actually are showing the UK version on BBC America, so I fail to see why they feel the need to 'remake' it. But then, they also stole 'American Idol', Dancing with the Stars,' and tons of other stuff. The only thing I've seen the Brits remake of ours is CSI-UK, and it's actually better.

Your right about UK CSI it is good. I've only seen a couple of them though.

I hate American idol, dancing with the stars.

I just saw in an ad that the vampire in the US version is named Aiden. That is the British actor's real name. The US really can't come up with even one original thing, can we? Lately British TV has been really good and kicking our ass (though perhaps not just lately :P). Instead of just copying them, why can't we be inspired by them and create our own good stuff? I'm so tired of remakes. Egads, make it stop!!!

This is Sam Witwer, who plays the vampire (Aidan) on the US version of Being Human.

I'm friends with him on Facebook, due to his ongoing participation in various Star Wars projects (and the fact that we're both from Illinois - gotta root for the hometown guys!), and he's really a very nice guy.  I'm enjoying the American version of the show... I've only seen the BBC version haphazardly, so I can't really make a fair comparison.

I'm not disparaging the actors on the US version, I'm sure they're fine. I certainly don't begrudge them the work. I just wish there was more original programs instead of rehashing the same idea over and over.

You know, I think I hit upon one of the reasons why British TV seems better than ours, at least to me: more emphasis is put on the writing. On a British series, the writer gets more credit, or at least more visible credit. Their name often appears under the title. In the US, writers seem kind of like a dirty little secret, hidden, and not spoken of. Their credits are usually listed way down in the queue, even though the entire project would not exist had they not, you know, created it. And they're replaced and interchanged all willynilly.

I can name several writers on British series off the top of my head, but I can't think of one from a US show.  I don't know if it's really accurate that British writers are more recognized or it's just my perception. Doesn't really matter either way. The US version will probably be quite successful ('cuz lately you just can't go wrong with vampires and werewolves) and that will maybe get more people checking out the UK version.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think, that in this country (UK) we tend to give credit to writers because it's usually one or two that are the creative genius behind successful shows like Dr Who, Being Human, The Office etc.
Whereas in the US, they tend to have a whole team of writers working on successful shows.

That's probably true. I'm sure everyone is familiar with Russell T Davies, the genius behind Dr Who, Torchwood, etc., but how many people knew that Tina Fey and Joss Whedon wrote for TONS of shows before SNL and Buffy The Vampire Slayer? Joss even has writing credits on Roseanne, which hardly anyone knows.

I recently watched a documentary about screenwriters. Except for a very select few, once they write it, they sell it, and then that's it, they get no input on the project. It then goes to someone else, and then someone else and so on. It explained a lot about why the movie biz is so often generic. With projects going through so many hands there is no clear voice and it becomes homogenized. Strange business. That doesn't apply to everything, of course. Still, if I could make a living dreaming things up I would be a happy camper! But alas, I do not have the talent. In my dreams I'm an enigmatic, reclusive writer. Or painter. Of canvases, not houses. :)

I just found out that Robson Green is in season 3 of Being Human. Don't know yet who, or what, he plays, but I liked him a lot in Wire in the Blood. I miss that show! It really put shows like CSI and the lot to shame. I was so very vexed when it was cancelled. :u055a:

Ok, this is a bit trivial, but I've just seen an add for season 3 and... what is wrong with Nina's hair? It's very poufy and round and distracting. Did she in some way offend the hairstylists?

Personally I think the hair change was to distance themselves from the copycat US version, which was filmed at about the same time. The US version copied the look of the 'ghost' down to the wardrobe. Geez even.

Alrighty then. I just finished watching the last episode of season 3. All my favorite shows keep killing off my favorite characters. First Ianto in Torchwood, and now Mitchell. Oh Mitchell. But! I read that there is to be a season 4. Will it be worth watching without the angsty good vs. evil that Mitchell brought?

The Brits definitely know how to do drama. No one is safe. Any character could die, even main characters, if it serves the storyline. The characters are subject to actual consequences. Like on the show Hex. They killed off the main character in the first season! US tv shows would never do that.

I have a love/hate thing with British tv shows. I hate when they kill my favorite characters, but I love the drama it creates!

No worries I am still watching it regardless of Mitchell death. I didn't see or Think he would be the one getting killed off.

Yep, season 4 is a go. I don't know when it will air, though. But, without Mitchell will it be worth watching? All the other characters are too moral. He brought some much needed ambiguity. Anti-heroes have always been my favorites. :bounce_pinka:

OK. You guys. I've seen seasons 1-3. they were great. When Mitchell Dies, they should have quit.
Because season 4 story line is lame. if that wasn't bad enough they killed off George. I couldn't get into it anymore. If anyone has seen the complete series and tells me different. Then I'll take another stab at it.
Oh, has anyone seen the US version.

I must answer my own question. I saw the US version. Loved it. The differences are: It has more gory blood lust scenes. and less cerebral.
