Well season 3 was filmed in Hi-Def, but I doubt we'll see a Blu-Ray version of it, the series is just not popular enough to warrant spending a fortune on putting out HI-def versions on DVD. Widescreen is something they could have managed though and I would have been happy with that.

The hi-def thing won't bother me but I REALLY hope that it is uncut and has the special features. I went ahead and preorded since I don't own them yet and I have never seen Eating Pattern or Supernova which really sucks because I love this show!

I ordered Season One from dvdpacific last night for $22.79.  Might take a week or so to arrive (I'm in Australia).

You can get the other 3 seasons just about anywhere, reasonably priced.

I know I can buy them in Australia - with great PQ, but I am concerned that they may be somewhat 'cut'.

I've read that the US ones are not cut, but also read that the PQ on a few seasons is poor...   am a little confused and wondering if this company will bring something new to the table....

Well as far as PQ is concerned, the first season as actually shot as film for Showtime, and the quality is great. S2 is pretty grainy in many episodes and I'm not sure if any sort of remastering will accomplish a change, I doubt they're going to go to alot of extra expense for what is essentially a catalog item. Season 3 is much better quality as is Season 4.

As far as I know, none of the UK, US, or Canadian dvds have ever been cut. If someone in Oz is cutting them, I'm sure it has something to do with local censors and not the manufacturer. I haven't seen anyone claim that any of the dvds have been cut from the originals and given an example of the cuts. You just really won't know til  you buy them.

Alot of  folks forget that this company is not just reissuing Lexx, but a ton of other catalog titles that Alliance had, check out their website and you'll see that the Lexx reissues are really not given much hype. I guess we should be grateful for what they'll do.

The Lexx Season's PQ on DVD in Australia (as I recall):  Season One looked good, Season Two looked just OK, Season Three looked excellent and Season Four looked excellent.

If season One was shot on real film it "could" be released in Hi Def (although all the special digital effects were probably done in standard def).  Of course we know Season 3 could be done in Hi Def too.  But that is not something I actually expect to happen - at least not for a long time.

The only cuts in Aus that I know of are cuts to Season One.  I haven't read about cuts to other seasons - but there may be...  just haven't read about them.

Known cuts to the Australian Season One DVD set:

1) A Zev shower scene is subtly reshot/reframed, and 2) a scene showing the divine shadow's brain being removed is cut/not shown...

The PQ you mentioned pretty much fits in with what I've seen on different versions of the DVDs so far.

As for the Hi def thing, don't hold your breath. They're not making Hi-Def versions on every new movie out there, so I doubt seriously they'd go to the tremendous expense to put Lexx out in Hi-def at all. Even though S3 was shot in Hi-Def, it wasn't ever SHOWN in Hi-Def in either Canada or the US, only Germany and I don't know of anyone that had a Hi-Def TV at the time to see any difference.

It was also not mastered for Hi-Def for the original  DVD's being as how that wasn't a format readily available at the time. It all comes down to cost effectiveness, and a DVD that has been out for about  6 years  and sold as much as it's had, isn't profitable considering not every Lexx fan even HAS a Hi-Def player or TV, much less wants to re-buy the DVDs again.

BTW, ask me how many times I've re-bought Blade Runner in different formats.... (Beta, VHS, SuperVHS, Laserdisc, VCD, DVD, DTS, Hi-Def) That might be the only exception to that rule. :) It's like buying the Beatles "White" album over and over again, because of format changes...

I;m pretty easy to please when it comes to formats. Some movies I have upgraded from VHS to DVD, but some I havn't even bothered to do that. Technology with constantly improve so I have burning desire to keep up with it, as long as I can watch it in at a certain level of quality I'm happy.

One thing that gets me very :u055a:  however is censorship and editing. We are adults, we can handle it for God's sake stop butching art!

1.3 (the third Movie) was heavily cut in Germany. That's why I spend 70 Euro buying half of S1 via Internet on DVD with RC2. But the Shop who did the searching for me was closed. So I still don't have the other half of S1 or the other Seasons on DVD.

The quality of the movies I got is pretty good.

When S2 and S3 were broadcasted on SciFi (Premiere) with SAP, I TiVoed (wow - is THAT term right?) most of it but there is no way to put it on DVD because the TiVo is part of my Premiere-decoder.

Talena, was Season 3 broadcast in 4x3 (square) or 16x9 (widescreen) aspect ratio?
