If you think about it, Stan acted self-lessly in more then one occasion.

Remember loveliner? He helped save Xev, and int he episode where they buried Kai in the first season, he stayed behind for xev, despite the desire to leave.

Also, in Stan's trial, he spared the prosecuters life.

Was Stan condemmed to fire because of his own guilt rather then redeeming qualities? Or the fact taht none of these other examples came to mind for him?

Stan wasn't infallible, he was human and made mistakes like anyone else.  Whether his lust or his heart made those choices.  For example, in season two, Brigadoom, he was ready to leave Kai and Xev to whatever fate would befall them in the theater and he was going to go away on the Lexx on his own and run from the drone arms.  As he's taking the moth back to the Lexx, he listens to Kai's story of how he and his people fought during the insect wars and how Kai lost his life and became an assassin, that was a turning point for him and whatever made him want to save his own skin after hearing that wrestled with his conscience, and in that example his conscience won out and he came back for them, and in the end, together,  they fought the drone arms.

Another strong example is in Season three, May.  When he first meets her he's immediately drawn to her and falls in love with her.  And when she's dead, Prince gives him an ultimatum, destroy Water and he would save May.   Is destroying a planet of people to save one that you love wrong?  Xev had to stop him, he was ready to do it.  In this instance it would have been wrong to destroy many lives for the sake of one.

Stan had his good points and his infallible human points, were they bad enough for him to be judged and sent to Fire for eternity?  I don't think so, I think he had a conscience and knew what was right and wrong deep down, not to say he wasn't a bit selfish, really, what male isn't, but he would often do the right thing.

I do think sparing the prosecutor in 'Stans Trial' was a very selfless act on Stan's part, but a lot of the time Stan is motivated by his own needs as much as the needs of others. I think a lot of Stan's actions maybe weren't so 'selfless' as they may have seemed. That Stan acted out of mutual need. i.e. the needs of the other crew members were mutually beneficial to Stan's.

I think that being on his own so much prior to where we found him in IWHS, left him in the habbit of always 'looking out for #1'. It was just a survival skill that he acquired along the way due to circumstances.

Well also in Supernova, he showed 'i won't leave my freinds behind'

So...what is the ultimate nature of Tweed man? Cowardly survivor who cares only for his social unit(Xev,Kai,790)? Basically thats how i bill him now.

Stan was pretty much a loner, until the rest of the crew came along and I think over time he looked at them as sort of being his family.  If a pretty girl comes along, of course his libido is the first thing to take over, and I think in those instances he would jeopardize his family, but in the end would probably do the right thing, but there have been instances where he's only been in something for himself.

Even more important, Stan was key in stopping Mantrid. True Mantrid had already destroyed the Light Universe, but it was Stan's decision that only a cowards death waited at the center of the universe that enabled them to stop Mantrid from eventually destroying the Dark Zone. Stan was willing to sacrifice his life to save countless trillions (all who lived in the Dark Zone). I think this should have far outweighed the mistake he made in May.

those without sin cast the first stone..aren't we all at fault in the end for whatever actions we've taken in life? Be it right or wrong? I think Stan represents the every man who tries his best..some win some lose..

Yeah I agree that Stan should have caught a break for offering to sacrifice himself to save the  universe, but unfortunately, I think that Prince wasn't giving Stan a fair shake and only allowed defenses that Stan could actually remember, and if there were some that he'd not mentioned, Prince would conveniently forget about them. Sort of like having an alibi witness not showing up to court when they could place you away from the scene of the crime...:)
