I've seen quite a few other shows that Michael McManus and the other former lexx cast have been in and I'd like to start out with Speaking Parts, the Atom Egoyan film that Michael McManus was in.  It's a very artistic film and I found many different nuances to it every time  I watched it.  I also bought the book about the movie, and I had this up on my old MM board with an excerpt from the book.

An Ending To Speaking Parts We Never Got To See...

I took a little time tonight and opened up my Speaking Parts book and it has a very long introduction with a lot of insight into the movie. Alot of comments by Atom Egoyan and one thing I found very interesting is that it doesn't tell us who the character Lance slept with, whether it was a man or a woman when he gigilo'd himself out to the hotel's clients. An excerpt from the script:

'Lance is buttoning up his shirt in one of the rooms. There is someone taking a shower in the washroom. A figure can be made out through the curtain, though it is impossible to tell if it is male or female. Lance leaves the room.'

HERE IS THE ENDING THAT WE NEVER GOT TO SEE THAT IS IN THE SCRIPT.......

The scenes which follow, although part of the original script were never shot.

Interior , Hotel, various locations, Day.

A quick montage of shots, each a glimpse of a particular gesture. No faces attached to the gestures. Hands sort soiled linen. Hands smooth sheets against a bed. Used towels are stuffed into a laundry bag. A bathtub is scrubbed, etc....

Interior, apartment building, Lisa's apt., Evening.

Lisa and Lance in her apartment, watching the television program that the Producer has made. The show looks exactly as it was seen in the previous shots.

Then there's some script dialog.......

On the television screen, the image cuts to a shot of a man rising from the audience. It is the Actor that has been hired to replace Lance. It is obvious from the way this man is shot that these inserts have been shot at a different time from the rest of the show.

More script dialog....

"Who are you?" The producer asks.

Actor: "I'm David's Brother."

Producer: "David's Brother?"

Actor: "yes."

the producer turns to the parents on the live feed image.

Producer: "Is this your son?"

The parents nod.

Actor: "I want to make a donation."

At this point in the original show, Clara appeared. but there is no trace of her as the image on the television cuts to a shot of the studio audience applauding. In this shot, taken from the original taping, Lance is spotted in the middle of the crowd of extras.

Lances mood suddenly changes as he stares at the shot of the audience applauding. He sees Clara. She is staring back at him. Lisa turns off the TV set.

Lisa: "It's just the stupid television."

Lance is still agitated. He turns to face Lisa. She moves to comfort him. As she runs her hand over his forehead, he closes his eyes.

Lisa: "I turned it off."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This was the part that was never shot, excerpted from the book, Speaking Parts.
There was also a piece in there about how Arsinee who played Lisa, Atom Egoyan originally wanted to play Clara and the actress who played Clara to Play Lisa, but Arsinee really wanted to play the part of Lisa and she auditioned and got the part.
It's a good book with a very insightful look into the film, the director's thoughts and the script.
Well worth purchasing if you are an Atom Egoyan fan or a fan of the Movie or of MM.
You guys might want to keep an eye on Ebay for some of these things, you'd be surprised that the Speaking Parts book shows up now and then.
Also, invest in the DVD. It has extra scenes not contained in the original movie and a narration by Atom that explains a ton of stuff about the characters that's not in the book either. Check out this page:
http://www.michael-mcmanus.com/sp.htm
It has reviews, vidcaps and clips of the deleted scenes.
Oh, I grabbed those a long time ago! :D
I found the book on Amazon Marketplace in the UK. Cheaper than on the German one. And I found the DVD at a reasonable prise as well while I was at it - and it's a new copy too!
Ah way kewl!  Let us know what you think of it.  I first bought SP on VHS when it was the 'rage' in Kai/MM drooling fandom back in '00 or '01.  Then when it was available on DVD (and yes, Lexx is the reason I broke down and bought a DVD player), I bought it on DVD and was treated to that extra scene of MM in a thong. :bounce_pinka:
MM has said he had a difficult time watching himself in that role because they shaved his body for the part and he thought he looked too effeminate.
Has anyone else seen this movie, and what are your thoughts on it?
Oh, I have already seen it *coff, coff* and I totally love it. The first time through I had trouble keeping everybody apart from each other (I'm a bit face blind), but I guess that was the intent :D
I don't watch it too often so it'll stay fresh.
I think it is a very intriguing movie and I'd like it even without the droolfest
Michael looks so young I always feel like I was robbing the cradle:ohoh:
I really like the movie Speaking Parts-- I kinda like the ending as it was in the movie. (Like, but maybe don't understand!). I bought the DVD, and after watching the movie, listened to the commentary of Egoyan, the director. It is a really interesting commentary, especially since so much has changed in terms of who has the power to make videos. Back then a video camera was this huge expensive thing.
I highly recommend this DVD! The characters in the movie are generally complex, with lots of different motivations so the movie holds up to repeated viewing.
I also like MM's performance in Hard to Forget-- a movie about a detective that becomes obsessed with a murder victim, then falls in love with her long lost twin sister, who then pretends to be the victim ..... (Don't you love these plots!? I do!) MM plays the murdering husband. This movie benefits from some fast fowarding through the parts with out Michael (and let's be honest, doesn't most of season 4 of Lexx!)
Hard to forget gets played on the We channel occasionally, (I got a tape from a friend. :) )
Hard to Forget is another movie I'd like to get my grubby mitts on. Not so easy over here, since I don't even have TV anymore, because I increasinly loathe the dubbing
Save it up for a prezzie for yourself for next month, NCT.
I liked the fact that MM played quite the villian in this role.  The movie itself wasn't that great,  you see MM a bit in the beginning then there's 45 mins of the interaction between the other lead male and female, then they bring MM's character back.  He does have a fight scene at the end and gets into fisticuffs and a struggle.  It is a must-see though for any MM fan.
My copy of the Speaking Parts book arrived today:bounce_pinka:
Of course they had to stuff it into the letterbox and damage it instead of ringing the bloody doorbell :u055a: :icon_kai:
Yay! So are you going to watch it today or did they actually damage the disc itself?
