POTC 3 - AT WORLD'S END..

OMG! Was this movie great or what? Ahoy maties, climb aboard for the best ride this side of the two universes. Lemme tell ya gals..Orlando Bloom aka Will Turner makes one hellva hawt pirate! Shiver me timbers!

I found the editing a bit choppy at first and ya better have a scorecard handy to keep who does what straight..everybody and their momma has an agenda in this piccy but it was a riot! The battle scenes on the high seas were off the hook! Captain Jack Sparrow's bit in his own private hell were to say the least wierd! I'll have to watch the DVD several times in order to get it straight in my head but it's worth it! The end was sad..so sad..won't say anymore but I will tell ya..Jack isn't done..nay..he will return!! So you bilge rats get ready for more adventures..anyhoo go see it if you're a fan..you won't regret it!

I really loved this movie too! (I must admit that I missed the post-credits scene :fear2:  and will have to wait until the DVD comes out -unless anyone here charitable enough sends me a PM/email with details of what I missed?). I saw at a few websites where the USA NETWORK will airplay this movie in 2009 (they paid $28 million for the rights.) (Also I saw rumours that there are plans for another POTC movie in 2009, and that it will be the 1st of another trilogy. Yippie!!)

I also will be heading straight for the DVDs right when they come out (the 2-DVD special set release of course!). Anyone (besides me) crazy enough to go for any of those 4foot x 6foot bus shelter posters on Ebay? (I go bonkers for the Elizabeth Swann!)  :888:

The Pursuit of Happyness
Will Smith

EXCELLENT! A study in the indominatable *sp* of the human spirit and what they are capable of in order to obtain the basics. Respect! Honor! Humility..Mr. Smith has grown as an actor and a man, a far cry from his hip hop days. The caliber of his acting ability and his the way he handles his craft is exemplatory *again sp* anyhoo I loved it and would highly recommend it to everyone who enjoys a well written story.

Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Rum!... Weeks later and I still cannot get POTC-AWE outta my system! The continuing epic of a big bad Swann that sat on a poor little Sparrow and Craken it all up until it's 'lil DMC sinketh into the Depps of Davy Jones Locket!

Anyways I came across a wonderful Dutch Treat website of Promo Photos from the Film:

http://www.potcfansite.nl/nl/Promo.htm

Though in dutch the pictures speak for themselves. These are promo photos that have appeared all over ebay, etc. Sellers of 8x10 photos probably got them from this site. There are Pics of all three main cast but it heavily leans towards Elizabeth Swann. An example picture follows: The Actual Thumbnail:

 :s010a:

15 minutes and 4.9 Megabytes later (on my dialup) below is the actual size of her lips in the downloaded photo, to give you an idea of the scale involved:

There are 15 CAST STILLS Promo Pics from the film, and Keira appears in every one of them. Not all of these are over 4 Megabytes but they are all large megabyte+ photos that pan way off your screen and quite suitable for Fan Art Prints maybe up to small poster size resolution. Then there are 26 Promo STILLS of her character, Elizabeth Swann. (There are actually 27 - one pic is not shown -#15 I think, but which can be downloaded when the missing number in the sequence is typed in manually.) Then there are 4 Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) Promo STILLS, and 3 of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom).

Plenty there enough to get Drunk on the Great Sceneries!  Get them while you can - with the movie going through it's cycle, so might these pictures one day fall off the edge of the world and off into Oblivion. . . .

Ok, I guess I should catch up on the summer films review here, the first one up will be the "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" that came out in July in both regular film and IMAX 3-D.

I went to see both versions, and let me tell you, if you have an IMAX theater close to you and can afford the $11-14 ticket price, I recommend it over the regular version.

First of all, the screen for the action will be much bigger and you can catch alot of stuff going on in the background that's harder to see, but the last 20 minutes of the movie is in 3D for the fight scene in the Ministry Of Magic's Department of Mysteries. All I can say is WOW. Unbelievable. They pulled out all the stops on production for that scene, and I won't spoil it for you by telling you what happens, but take my word for it, it will blow your mind.

The film itself is about 2:45, and given the book was HUGE, they obviously had to cut out alot of sub-plots (mostly involving Kreacher and the Grimmauld Place background) but the best scenes were with Professser Dolores Umbridge (Imelda Staunton) as a sadistic, self-important Ministry toadie that convinces her mentor, Minister Corelius Fudge, to install her as head of Hogwarts, and rule with an iron hand. Her treatment of the other professors, notably Trelawney and Snape, are both hysterical and heartbreaking.

The action sequences kick ass, tho the flying scenes were a little jumpy but still effective. Helena Bonham Carter certainly wasn't my choice as Bellatrix LeStrange, but she handled the part of being an insane Death Eater quite well, and Jason Isaacs as Lucius Malfoy was never more Evilicious. The storyline followed the book pretty well except several people that went to see it didn't understand why Hagrid was all beat up when he came back from his visit with the Giants and why the Centaurs were so pissed off or what they actually 'did' to Umbridge in that forest. *wink*

All that stuff is contained in the book, and my guess is that even tho reading it certainly would give you more background, they should have made it just a tad longer to explain all the other inconsistencies like Kreacher, the paintings, the Centaurs and other subplots, like Dumbledore avoiding Harry all year and the Ministry's interference in Hogwarts.

I highly recommend it for the spellbinding action, and storytelling, this directer did an acceptable job, tho I'd rather have seen Guillermo Del Toro do another film, I hear he's scheduled for 'Half Blood Prince'..We can only hope.

Guillermo Del Toro? Oh brill, if he does. Pan's Labyrinth was wondrous.

The film allegedly based on the Dark is Rising sequence is due out early October, called the Seeker.  To say I am deeply pissed off would be an understatement. I have waited 40 years for this film & watching the trailer made me want to weep/spit.  :icon_evil:  Someone on the imdb board described it, aptly, as "another gaudy fantasy clone"

By contrast, the books are magical and subtle ..  When I think of the great jobs done with Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings....  ooh, wasted opportunities...  :(

It's known as "the Dark is Rising" sequence & it's by Susan Cooper. The Dark is rising is the 2nd book in the sequence (& my favourite) . The titles are:

Over Sea, under Stone

The Dark is Rising

Greenwitch

The Grey King

Silver on the Tree

The sequence is full of Arthurian and other folklore (& that's why the bloody film is such a let down.... sigh)

I hope you enjoy them & love the magic & mystery in them as much as I do...

Thanks Jerhume, I'll make a point to check out the whole series. I'm a sucker for Arthurian stories.

SPOILERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, hold on to your seats boys and girls, I"m about to tell you about 'SHOOT 'EM UP', the rockem-sockem crime spree captured on film starring the ever scrumptious CLIVE OWEN (King Arthur, City of Men, Closer, etc) Paul Gianatti (Lady in the Water, etc) Monica Belluci (Brothers Grimm, Matrix Revolutions)..the rest of the cast is not worth mentioning, since you never see anyone's faces long enough to form a sense of recognition..:c030a: The action is so blisteringly fast that you'll never miss not knowing their names.

It starts out innocently enough, a disheveled Mr. Smith (Clive, is that his real name? We never find out really) is sitting in the dark on a public bus bench, when a heavilly pregnant woman staggers by, clearly in distress and on the run from someone, when a SUV careens around the corner, slams into a parked car and chases after the woman, with some Neanderthan screaming 'I'll fucking kill you, bitch !!" at which time the woman stumbles down an alleyway...Mr. Smith, throws down his paper and says 'Aww....fucking hell".....and proceeds to dash after the perpetrator of the little chase scene.

That's the slowest scene in the whole movie. Honestly. To say that it's merely a chase scene the whole way thru is sort of like saying 'it's just a boat' about the Titanic.

Body count is through the roof, Mr Smith takes out more men than the Civil War, single-handedly, while deliveing a baby in an abandoned warehouse.. When he hands over the kid to someone to help him take care of it, (Monica Belluci) she asks why and he says 'I'm a British Nanny and I"m dangerous'. That's probably one the longest sentences in the flick but WE DON'T CARE !!

Car chases, scooping up kids from the highway ala 'Raising Arizona', high-tech machine guns, government cover-ups, Black market organ harvesting, fetish-lactating hookers, Boob-fu, File-cabinet fu, running thru walls, explosions, Monica Belluci in a 50's diner uniform,  hot men in black Kevlar, YUM !!

Needless to say I was in Heaven. Especially since it was my birthday and I"m an all-action kinda girl, this was the perfect movie for me. If you're looking for a real script or some deep philosophical meaning of life film, then take a hike. This movie is unabashadly, simply great eye-candy, Jolt-Cola imbibing, popcorn devouring ACTION and that's all it was meant to be. To prove it, during the Ebert and Roper reviews, Roper, (the pansy-ass) hated the movie but guest reviewer, Dallas-born Robert Willonsky LOVED it...(man after my own heart).

Most memorable scene? Clive Owen, running full-tilt boogie thru an abandoned warehouse, firing his nine-mil at about 50 Evildooers, not missing a beat and bulldozing himself thru walls and windows, all while cradling a baby while Motorhead's 'Ace of Spades' is blastin onscreen....YEAH !!

Being I was the only female in the audience, I looked around and noticed all the guys in the theater were yelling in joy at the spectacular action scenes. THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT !

I give it 12 blazing white-hot stars out of 10.

PS. Oh and I forgot to mention, a Lexx connection in this film, STEPHEN MCHATTIE (Moss)  plays an arms dealer...:c030a:

I watched 'Highlander The Source' last night. Adrian Paul looks as wonderful as ever. The movie was interesting in that it may be the ending for the series and any further Highlander movies.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that new Highlander flick follows the TV series only, right?

I swear, that has got to be the most convoluted film series of all time.
