Ok, I know this isn't a scifi film, but it was so hysterical I just had to post about it.

I went to see "Hot Fuzz' at the movies this week, directed by the same guy that brought us "Shawn of the Dead"...and I have to say, it was friggin' hystercial. Every action cop-buddy movie cliche was used to full advantage. In a nutshell, it was sort of like "Midsommer Murders on Meth"...

A  London 'Supercop" is relocated to a rural village area, simply because he's making everyone else look bad, and is stunned to find out this village has had NO murders in 20 years, but the accident rate is off the cha-hizzle. Obviously there's monkey business afoot, so our hero must ferret out the bad guys and expose the 'BIG SECRET" about this quiet rural hamlet.

I won't give away any more of the plot, but just so you know, it has HUGE guest stars, (Timothy Dalton, Bill Nighy, etc) and everyone acts completely over the top, which is pretty much the point of the whole movie. If you like cop films, buddy films, English murder mysteries, or any black comedies, you'll love this.

People were rolling in the aisles.

"The film was initially inspired by an episode of Spaced, written by Pegg (along with his writing partner and co-star Jessica Stevenson, who also appears in Shaun as Yvonne) and directed by Wright, in which the character of Tim (played by Pegg), under the influence of speed, the PlayStation video game Resident Evil 2, and twiglets, hallucinates that he's fighting off a zombie invasion."

From wiki

Well bugger me - that's not an offer okay! I love Res Evil! Spaced was okay - did anyone watch it?

I thought Shaun of the Dead was okay - nothing special.

But Dylan Moran is hot - so that makes it good in my books LOL

Well I went to see Spiderman this week...box office Juggernaut that it is, 180 MIL ON OPENING WEEK, broke all kinds of records (utill POTC 3 that is) and the theater was packed even on a weekday matinee.

Ok..SPOILERS !!!!!

Well at first I was stoked to see this movie because I was a fan of the other 2, good villains, great SFX, half-decent writing, and some good stunts. BUT...

This one looked like an overblown video game. The action sequences were edited so fast and in such a way that you couldn't even keep up with the scenes half the time.  The CGI didn't look realistic, and the 'Spidey' character (both versions) looked cartoonish to everyone in the audience. The relationship between Peter and MJ (Kirsten Dunst) is boring, no fire, no real activity until he turns 'bad' and then acts like a total prick, (oh btw, the scene in the restaurant is so unbelievable as to be completely ridiculous.) and I started hoping she'd dump Peter and go back to the rich guy...

As for the different 'villains'...Thomas Hayden Church sort of sleep-walked thru his part, which is appropriate since he played the "Sandman"...but the scene where he turns into that creature from the particle accelerator is pretty cool.

His pal, who partially turns into a bad guy/good guy/bad guy really doesn't do much to inspire fear,  just sort of a hope that he decides to give up his dream of joining "Boys to Men" and get a real job.

As for Topher Grace's part of the ambitious photographer who turns into 'Venom', it was completely unbelievable that he'd turn so vicious just because he'd been outed as a liar and a thief for faking Spidey pics just to get a little promotion. He could have just as easily gone someplace else and got a different job. There wasn't any long-suffering history of animosity towards Peter, he could have just as easily turned against the Boss.

The movie was also VERY long, and I was ready to leave during the boring sequence of the 'dance' in the restaurant and go shopping...BUT for Spidey fans, I guess you'll get your money's worth. Lots of action, explosions and ass-kickings. Mostly Peter's..

3 stars...

That seems to be the rage these days and I absolutely hate that kind of stuff. I'm not of the MTV generation and I can't keep up. During great parts of the Bourne Ultimatum I had to close my eyes, or I would have puked on the carpet, I was so seasick. Now that was a disappointing waste of time:wuta:

What's really disturbing is that all the big movies for the summer are sequels...it's as if there's not an original thought in anyone's head these days. Take a look at the lineup:

1. Spiderman 3

2. Pirates of the Caribbean 3

3. Bourne Supremacy 3

4. Shrek 3

5. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (5) Personally looking forward to this one..

6. Ocean's 13 (3)

7. Hostel 2

8. 28 Weeks later (28 days later)

9.  Are we Done yet (Are we there yet)

10.  Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 or 3

11.  Fantastic Four, rise of the Silver Surfer (2)

12.  Evan Almighty, (sequel to Bruce Almighty with a differernt lead)

13. Live Free or Die Hard (Die Hard 3)

Gah...

Oh, I forgot 2 more...

14. Resident Evil -Extinction (3 or 4?)

15. Rush Hour 3....

PS....28 WEEKS LATER KICKS ASS !!

The CGI was cartoonish! The dialogue inane but the highlight of the entire fiasco was when Peter Pecker..uhh sorry..Parker tries to do the rico suave...I nearly fell outta my seat in hysterical laughter!!! Look boyo when you're trying to do as cool as Cary Grant and as suave as say Sean Connery..study up on the moves..for all that is up above don't do it if'n you can't!! You came across the screen as lame..lame as a three legged donkey in a dog race!!!

*whew*

My rating..one roar being absolutely lousy and five roars as the best thing I seen since my lovah dropped his pants..this was barely above a half hearted snarf!!! Save ya money peeps..matter of fact give it to charity..do ya heart bettah..

Ok this one picks up a few months after the first film, which if you remember. a 'Rage Virus' has been unleashed on the inhabitants of Britain and the zombies are running amok. Robert Carlisle (the FULL MONTY) plays the part of a man who's holed up in a farmhouse with his wife and a few others that have managed to hide themselves in the country and live in the basement while the zombies still run around the countryside. A young boy runs to the house and beats on the door to be let in, and no,he's not infected but right behind him are an army of zombies looking for Sunday brunch. In the first 15 minutes, you'll see some of the most terrifying zombie action ever on screen and that's just an appetizer.

The big setup is that Carlisle and his wife are trapped in the upstairs bedroom with the little boy (their own kids have been sent overseas for protection) and while the wife and kid try to fight off the zombies. Dear old dad pulls a cowardly move and jumps out a window and makes a run for it, deserting his wife while she's being eaten. In one of the most heart-pumping chase scenes ever, he manages to run thru a gauntlet of them down to the river and manages to snag a small boat from the owner, sacrificing him to the zombies in order to get away. We last see him barrelling down the river like a bat out of hell. What's so striking about that scene is that the countryside is beautiful and peaceful looking and you'd think that it was heaven until you see these zombies running at you full-tilt-boogie..*yes they are FAST*

A few months later, we find out the plague has died out because all the zombies have starved to death and of course the government decides in their infinite wisdom to start repopulating the city again, but in restricted zones and under heavy American military protection, like snipers and tanks everywhere.

Carlisle's kids are brought back and he cooks up some story about how Mom died and then the kids start bugging him to go see their old house. When his back is turned the cut thru the restrictions and go searching thru deserted London for their old home, I guess to pick up that oh-so-important iPod that just couldn't be left behind. Now this is what bugs me out of the movie. You'd think these kids (who are in their teens) would have enough sense to know that zombies = bad stuff and would stick close to home...but NO... or there wouldn't be a movie.

SO..GUESS WHO THEY FIND HIDING OUT AT HOME?..yes, you're right, it's Mom..hiding upstairs and looking like a caged animal...but NO she's not infected, in spite of the fact she's been bitten. But why she wasn't consumed is anyones guess. NO answer there..So now the kids are PISSED OFF at dear old Dad for lying to them and now Mom is getting her memory back. The military shows up, takes them all to the Med center and discover Mom has an antibody to the virus, which might be passed on to the kids...unfortunately...yes...SHE'S A CARRIER...

Her first victim? Her loving hubby who comes to apologize...he begs forgiveness and withing minutes of kissing her...becomes a rage-infected zombie himself.

The rest of the movie runs so fast and with such great SFX and terrifying moments, I'll leave the rest to you to discover, but YES I give this one 5 stars for being even better than the first one and having a pretty plausible storyline.

Gore gore and more gore, lots of military goodies, sniper attacks, firebombings, dark tunnel stairs with no lights  going down under a stadium (the creepiest scenes since Blair Witch Project) surprise twists and  of course, they set it up for another sequel.

Ah yes..can't wait..5 STARS !!

I went and saw POTC - At World's End yesterday and it is fantastic!  I liked it as much as I did the original movie.  And as Maya said if you go to see it, stay through all the credits for the additional scene they add in at the end, cause it really is worth it.  I don't want to spoil it for the others going to see it, but it is well worth seeing in the theaters!
