Hello everyone.

I'm currently writing an article on "Lexx at 10" for a science-fiction magazine (to remain nameless here, but it has been Hugo-nominated), and would be interested in any help you can offer me in getting certain information:

* Media coverage of the show-particularly after its original run ended in early 2002, and particularly outside of specialized magazines like Sci-Fi Weekly. (Michael McManus's web site offers a fair selection of stuff in such magazines from during the show's run.)

* Any advice about contacting the creators and cast.  (I've already found most of the cast's web sites, and have even heard back from a couple of people, but there are some I haven't even figured out how to send a message to.)

* Various quantitative data-anything published on DVD sales or ratings, for instance (especially in the U.S.).

* Word of the various spin-off projects.

* Differences in the reception of Lexx in various markets-especially outside North America.

As the fans where "the spirit of Lexx lives on," I also invite any and all comments you may have about where the show is now, what its legacy has been-and where Lexx will be at 20. I'm interested not just as a writer, but as a fellow fan.

Your contributions are appreciated, and thanks very much for your time.

Brian Downey's board is a good board for a source of information.  There are several articles at BD's message board where he goes into detail of the conception of the show.

I beleive there are some articles on Lexx post-demise regarding the selling off of costumes and props and a few articles about reruns in media mags but I think that's about it. As for DVD stats, Acorn Media is the only company that has any statistics that I know of, the previous dvd company that did Season One (the movies) hasn't released any I've seen but I could be wrong there. (Koch Vision at http://www.kochcan.com)

No spin-off projects ever got off the ground, there was a comic book planned at one point and lots of fans are antsy for a new Lexx project but Brian stated that nothing as yet is likely to materialize due to huge costs.

As for the differences in the various markets, the show is still being shown in reruns in Germany, (there's a German scifi channel) and sometimes in the UK. So far this year, no word on reruns. A good place to start would be the US's.Scifi channel, since they have the most detailed information about the life of the series.

Try Scifi.com and look up the editors and or programming people, they can probably give you some information on the running life of the series and stats on the viewers.

As far as I can tell, Lexx still continues to generate interest from all corners of the globe, even if it's not as much as it was during the run of the show, and lots of people have created fanfiction, websites and other ways to memorialize the impact the show had on Scifi tv.

Unfortunately, many of the cast members are scattered around the world and some have moved on to new projects but they still hold Lexx very close to their hearts.

Check out Timeless Destinations 2007 for cast members appearances:

"LEXX at 20" wow what a concept. Well i was wondering, the Lexx 10 dual reunions included Xenia Seeberg, but she didnt join the cast until 1998? So maybe we should wonder about the upcoming real 10 year reunion, depending on ones perspective.

Badtges? Someone wants to see Badtges?

I would have to say technically the Lexx 10 year reunion was last year as they started filming in 1996.  They may not have aired until 1997, but many people don't look at that as the year it was made, just the year it started airing, so my belief is that the 10 year reunion has passed and it is now in it's 11th year.  Plus it was advertised last year at TD con as the 10 year reunion, so that's already been done, and you can't do the same thing twice.

Technically youre talking about Lexx Anniversary, not reunion, unless it is meant to exclude Xenia Seeberg or other cast that joined later. Xenia cant have a reunion if she didnt even join the show until 1998 is the whole point, and may be of trivia interest here. Exact dates arent important as conventions dont try to follow those events, they just occur when they occur. Following the idea of when filming began, when did Xenia actually start filming, because of course it didnt air until after a production period?

Speaking of reunions, how long had it been since Brian and Michael had last met, before Megacon? The actually were first "reunited" at the cast table on Friday. Xenia had met Brian and Michael last summer, but Brian had not met Michael then.

As to the mag, and my credentials: I'm not trying to be mysterious. It's just the mag's policy to never guarantee publication without seeing the finished piece (which obviously doesn't exist), and I never feel right saying "I'll publish in X" until I have that guarantee (or better still, until it has been published)-especially since I've been doing this long enough to know projects sometimes fall apart. (Admittedly, a run of bad luck at the start of my publishing career many years ago, with five of the first seven or so articles I sold never making it into print, has probably made me overcautious in this regard.)

I will say that I have previously published with this particular SF magazine, my editor at which has discussed the piece and offered useful input. I do inform those I contact  for interviews about my plans in more detail, and the status of the piece, since that seems only fair, and I'm pleased to say that so far the responses have been generous. I will also notify the users of this board when things develop, as I have good reason to expect them to.

As to my most relevant credentials: I have reviewed and written about SF for numerous publications, including the New York Review of Science Fiction, Foundation: International Review of Science Fiction and Tangent Online. (Incidentally, I also have a Ph.D in Literature, for which I wrote my dissertation on SF, and have taught science fiction at my university, one session of which helped spark the idea for this article.)

In the meantime, I thank all those who have written in reply-and any others who will write in later.

Regards,

milesteg1000

Xenia talked a lot about how Lexx was received in Germany at one of the TD panels last year. Did anybody tape that besides he whose name shall not be mentioned here? Or do transcripts?

To my knowledge, no one has done a transcript but I guess that could be arranged, it would take a lot of  time due to how long the panel was, and of course Michael wasn't at that one either. The new Lexx cast panel with the 3 members of the cast reunited at Megacon is being worked on as we speak and should be available in the first segment pretty soon. It's overan hour long, so we're splitting it up into 4 segments..so stay tuned..:)

One thing about Lexx that I think is really interesting is the amount of CGI in the series. I don't know if this fits into the theme of your article, but I remember Brian Downey once saying that the amount of CGI in S3 (the Fire and Water planet season) was on the order of what one might expect in a feature film rather than a tv show. Since we are starting to see more productions with entirely computer generated sets this could be an interesting angle.

Thanks for the thought. The CGI's been mentioned before, and I'll be sure to mention it.
