Yeah I heard that too, but I did not want soil surprise, oh well.  I don't have a dvd recorder, just a bog standard video recorder.

Didn't think it was much of a surprise if it was in the official magazine. Whatever, I don't need to talk about it here.

What Magazine do you mean?  In anycase I don't magazines, papers.  I don't even buy tv programme listings, as most tv crap.  I just look it up on internet when I remember.

I think the last scifi mag I brought which was ages ago now, had an article about Lexx in.

Doctor Who Magazine, they did an interview with Russel T Davis awhile back when people were asking if Captain Jack would appear in the next series (the one we just had in the spring over here). I want the Captain in both all the time, just because I'm selfish that way. I've missed the last few months of mags, but I have a pretty good collection of them going, when Joe doesn't decide they are better suited for making paper dolls (or paper Daleks for them to run in terror from), so perhaps I inadvertently know more than others on the board might, hence why I should just whistle innocently and say nothing, except perhaps that Jack needs to take his shirt off more, and Owen needs to leave his on ;)

AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGH  I'M HOOKED ! I've been watching the reruns of the first season on BBC America and I like it better than Dr. Who, although I DID catch the Dr. Who ep where they show how the Torchwood institute was started..by Queen Victoria, no less !! Very nice. I'm definitely going to check this show out from now on. :bounce_pinka:

Ok, we're only up to Ep4 in Season One over here, while you guys in the UK await a new season to start in December, so I guess we can do reviews here:

Cyberwoman:

LOVED it. It was old-school Dr. Who material, the Cyberman had destroyed the old Torchwood and Lisa, one of the crew there, got assimilated into being 'upgraded' into a half-cyberman, but unfortunately for her, the upgrade hadn't been completed. Her boyfriend, Ianto, (some thought to be a love interest of Jack's) flipped out when the old Torchwood was destroyed and and hid her in the basement storage room of the new Institute, unbenownst to Jack and the new crew.

When an experiment to 'regress' her back to human fails, and Lisa kills the scientist smuggled into the building by Ianto to help her, all hell breaks loose.

Ianto tries to prevent Jack and crew from destroying Lisa, and is so far into denial that he doesn't understand that she's completely lost to this cyberman transformation. He and Jack have a huge altercation and tons of stuff gets destroyed in the Institute, but the Pterodactyl pet they have helps a bit in combating the Cyberwoman. Some people didn't like the 'other sitde' of Jack being shown, but hey, it's a crisis situation.

Lots of action, gory beyond belief, (loved it) and some delicious snogging by all involved..(except Tosh) :)

I don't know how many of you are watching this series in the US, the lucky Brits have had this show since last year and are anxiously awaiting the debut of Season 2 in December. I hope someone can tape it for us...heh.

The 4th ep, Small Worlds is true British-themed storytelling, complete with a mythical background in contrast with the modern-day Alien hunters. It's somewhat of a departure on the series theme, because it delves more into the paranormal than the Scifi element, but it's charming and disturbing all the same.

Guest star Eve Pearce, better known for her 'Coronation Street' roles, plays the part of Estelle, an elderly woman who is obsessed with the legends of woodland fairies (and yes, I know all of you people with minds in the gutter are just DYING to make some comment regarding Capt Jack and fairies, etc,) trust me, been there done that.

Anyway, the subject ofwoodland creatures is very dear to the heart of many Brits, (or Welsh as the case may be), because it's a big part of folklore for the entire region and goes back thousands of years. Estelle is determined to get pics of the flighty little devils (ah yes) and succeeds in capturing a little bit of them on film. In the meantime, a young girl of about 8 or 9 is being subjected to all kinds of harrassment at school, home (from her resentful stepfather) and a local  pedophile ( I said it was disturbing) who tries to get her into his car while walking home from school. She's been cavorting with the fairies in the woods, instead of more contemporary pursuits like Halo and PS3 or hanging out with other girls her age. She spends so much time there, her distracted mother becomes worried (but not enough to see what's happening under her own roof) and it drives the little girl even further from her family. The Fairies are explained (by Jack, who visits Estelle during one of her lectures with Gwen,) that they are ancient creatures from the earth and capable of not only mishcief by world-wide catastrophes if thwarted in their little games.

The people that are bothering the little girl are summarily dispatched in an unusal way. They're smothered with tons of rose petals down their throats. Now Jack knows about this because in his previous life in the army in 1909, his troop train was full of men, and were smothered in revenge the same way, because of an incident where a group of soldiers had run over a little girl while driving drunk. Apparently, the girl (both of them) are Chosen Ones, and destined to join the ranks of the Fairies in spite of what anyone else wants. Needless to say, they wreak havoc on the local population until Jack has to turn the young girl over to them (and she really WANTS to go) much to the great outrage of the girls mother and the crew of Torchwood. He only does it because it was either that or the world would become a ball of ice, and they promised she'd come to no  harm. Not a fluffy ending, by any means. (and they do keep thier promise)

But the big shocker is that Estelle, who gets killed by association, was actually either married or bonded to Jack in the 40's when she was a young girl, but she has no idea that it's him, come back to viist. Gwen of course can't keep her nose out of it and  gets a tearful confession from Jack that Estelle had been a great love of his in the past, and that Estelle had always thought he was the original Jack's son.

Very heartwrenching episode for the mother, but she deserved it, since she allowed her boyfriend to smack the little girl around and ignored her most of the time, to be more involved with her abusive boyfriend.

Interesting episode, not everyone's cup of tea, but I enjoyed it and they actually showed some real photographs that were taken decades ago by Fairy hunters in the UK. Great stuff and we get to see Jack do a little suffering.

For anyone who hasn't seen this ep yet, here's the scene we're discussing. Make sure to keep an eye on both Jack's hands and Gwen's expression...hehe.
